March 27, 2010 (KHARTOUM) — Sudan electoral board has dismissed the resignation of its head Abel Alier stressing he chaired a meeting it held today Saturday while the commission follows its activities as usual.

The denial comes after strong rumours in the capital Khartoum yesterday about Alier resignation which could lead to the delay of electoral process until the parliament is called to appoint a new chairman.

The deputy chairman of the National Election Commission Abdallah Ahmed Abdallah denied in statements to the official SUNA the resignation of NEC chairman Abel Alier saying the Commission, in a meeting chaired by Alier, discussed on Saturday the latest preparation ahead of the critical phase of polling process.

He added in remarks made after the meeting that the NEC tackled the ongoing arrangements for the elections and ensured the receipt of equipment imported from the United Kingdom and South Africa as well as the transfer of required electoral materials to Juba and other regional states.

All the required equipments will be delivered by April 8 and elections will take place as scheduled, he stressed.

On November 25, 2009, Sudanese President appointed Alier and eight other eight members of the NEC after their endorsement by the parliament on November 17, as necessary step towards the organization of general election.

The independent commission is the sole institution that has the authority to fix the date of elections and to postpone it. In accordance with the electoral law, the elections should be organised to take place six months after the establishment of the NEC.

Such resignation if happened would force to postpone the electoral process until the call of two chambers of the parliament by presidential decree in order to approve a new chairman of the Commission after discussion between the two peace partners.

Several opposition parties and Darfur rebel groups ask to delay the election but the ruling National Congress Party refuses the idea. A coalition of of opposition forces and the southern Sudan ruling SPLM agreed today to take a decision on the issue next week after a meeting for the Sudanese presidency where the postponement will be discussed.

Abel Alier should have resigned because he is not doing well for the people of South Sudan. He is Bashir’s NCP stooge as he was Nimeiri’s stooge. This old man who has been Jellaba boy since he grow up in Bor has no shame. Elections will not go well under his chair of NEC.

          Gatwech,Thonkiir...

For sure what ’re you yapping against Abel Alier?
He’s a great man known in the whole world. He doesn’t have any bad record against his fellow Southerners.Gatwech,Look @your own uncle,Dr.Riek Machar what has done for South Sudan. He only defected n carry on with Bor massacre-murdering innocent South Sudanese. He doesn’t have any finger in the problem of South Sudan....when the broke out in 1983.He did not become an activist against the South Sudan’s struggle..Won’t remind you of who made it to his best being against Junub.Ask your characters of Riek Machar , Riek Gai ,quite a group of Nuer gangsters who became against the struggle.By the way, don’t you feel ashamed giving you an explanation of what you know.Abel Alier is not a power hungry person like all your uncles who made up diferent militias for they need only becoming rulers even with inabilities.

Also, coming to this character of Thonkiir, what you trying to say by blaming the father of justice in the whole republic of Sudan. He’s a great guy known for being very humble,he ’s a great lawyer unlike your with lots of capabilities that he achieved during his reign as the Vice president of the republic n as the president of higher executive council in Junub in those years.
He’s very neutral n very pragmatic in nature,he’s a realist.
How about that guy you know who bought a doctorate @200,000 USD.He’s not corrupt like the government your uncle ’s holding up in mess now. Before you guys try to blame others, check yourselves very well. You guys have been foolish majority, that’s why Dinka is blamed for your corrupt practices.
’AM very sorry for challenging as that..didn’t mean it!1!

You have some point, but let me tell you that Abel Alier is not a father of justice.
I doubt about you nature when i read your comments always.
You might be among those who don,t know how to talk but intruding eyes for nothing. I know Nuer are most traitors but they are not that majority, they are parasites and our servants in the South.

Look @ this fellow of Dinka boy, what do you know about Alier Kuai Kut? When I try to say ,he doesn’t have hands in the mess in Junub el Sudan ... You just ’re sternly not convinced to believe it in how I know about him.
Our hero Dr.John Garang broke out with war in 1983 but, know what....he became an activist championing the liberation struggle that Dr.John Garang had it in his vision to pursue it through his own ways. When Dr.John left to get more organize in Ethiopia,he didn’t disrepute it but allowed to pursue his dreams in the interests of Sudan. The government that Garang was leaving against was the very government he had a hand in it....but,with all his interests he made it a possibility to see that Dr. John went through the struggle after having met.

Now,you Dinka boy ..as always a lost fellow at all times Just surely don’t understand what points you try to bring to the table. You push it forward making people to crack their minds for your no ponits. Will remind you once again,Abel Alier is a father of justice in the whole country .he ’s known both nationally and internationally for his own very nature of peace, and justice.

Abel Alier was the traitor who failed southerners during the ’First War". He was bribed by Nimeiri to negotiate the Addis Ababa Accord and later usurped the leadership from Lagu. How would you negotiate on behalf of the enemy of your people who were victims?
Abel Alier is a greatest chamillion in the south, followed by anaconda, Lam Akol.

Can you please define who is a traitor? can you please refer to any source why Abel is a traitor? Can you please describe any other person who had done what Abel did other then John Garang?

You guys need to be careful enough on how you pretend to be real Southerners while you are the problem to the South. What negative role did Abel Alier played in his recent leadership that is bias to the South other then the mandate given?

Comparing Abel to war lords and the political prostitutes is the most disgraceful things I ever came across. First, Abel was not a contestant during the formation of HEC. He was proposed by those who knew his capability. He didn’t in any way took the leadership of lagu. Abel was also proposed to negotiate the Addis Ababa agreement of which if you read carefully the APA and CPA than you will discover why Dr John was consulting Abel during the CPA. What Abel has done will take another 30 years and more for some politicians to reach.

please refer to the source of your information and correct yourself. Abel has done his best for the South for the last 50 years in politics.

              Awer,

If at all he was like a traitor, what was about his book ’too many agreements dishonored’ n all the other books that he got published as an activist for Junub el Sudan. It’s not good blaming the unproblematic, lol.

He’s a great in the history of Sudan. He became among the first Southerners to play his legal brain in the interests of South Sudanese. Not interested giving you fact files on his achievements for Sudan in the interests of Junubeen.

It’s not all about carrying up arms that make out better possibilities;Interests through negotiations that has got in it like CPA lay out has mattered lots n that’s what has been on the grounds. He had the burdens of all the problems of South Sudan,but..being lonely with few other guys...verses the majority criminals in the North, they were always got down through protocols as in of the majority.

Thought you know about the gov’t with 3/4 in the house always performed!!
You guys like Dinka boy ’re too innocent in this website.U got a very lonely mind that doesn’t realize things wholly.Won’t talk of Gatwech ..he ’s terribly a champion of traitor Dr Riek Machar

The matter is not about his "BooK", but what he did. Some southerners as those of Abel acts with hostility towards southerners when they are in Arab governments in the north and once they got kicked out, they turn to work for the rights of southerners. His book was just reaction to expose Arabs after he fell out with them and to generate wealth.
The fact you have to know is that Abel negotiated Addis Ababa Accord as an Arab stoog and later he was rewarded by leading the regional government of that time. Judge this and tell me what really went wrong. CPA was sealed and SPLM leadership was given power in the south and no other southerner or party was given that privellege unlike Addis Ababa Agreement.

Let’s not give in to our sensitivities and emotions solely Abel happens to from our tribe. I have never seen his contributions to southerners, may be his native villagers and I would give you a clap for if it’s what are defending him. your argument is an indicative of brainless tribalist trying to cover a fireball with with a cloth.

But those rumours of saying that election need to be postponed I hope it will not happend because Abel is not the only one in that committe. And if they postpone it, it will be very big problem to Bashir. And as per now, Bashir is the victim about the resignation of the chairman Abel Alier.

It is funny that some people takes things in every shallow mind without even digesting the reality behind it, I don’t know in which way will you termed Abel Alier as NCP stooge. In first place, Abel had never been a member of any Arab party other then the Southern Front. Abel is a patriotic man whose both parties the NCP and the SPLM based their ideas during the negotiation of CPA.

Abel successful negotiation of the Addis Ababa Peace agreement was a milestone in the history of our struggle. Please get yourself enough information about those who did their best on behave of Southern Sudan before you could make this unreality’s cases against elders like him. You have a right to correct his deeds but not labeling him with wrong affiliation.

I doubt you people understand the rumour of Abel Alier having might resigned. There are possibilities of frustrations and intimidation within the NEc, I guessed, and he might be pushing something which might favour Southerners or so but couldn’t do it. He is an educated person, experienced and practic lawyer for over 60 years. He wouldn’t wish to do things your ways. You better read more or improve your brainpower if you are to challenge this person.

Well, he has never done anything stupid to Southerns and is respected for that by people who fought the war like myself. His contribution was tremendous in intellectual and diplomatic sense. That made him not to be rubish by people who have just waken up yesterday to realise there is a need to champion Southern Sudanese freedom. He began long before.

It shouldn’t be an issue to divide us. Otherwise, Elections must be done with or without Abel. Any postponement will technically affect referendum’s period.

    Hi quys ,
you need to torn down your bigotry toward this great southern icon. The old man has done a lot to southerners if one has to sacrifice it all. He has relentlessly toiled for the right of every southerner directly or indirectly and if one’s has to say that is not good enought than you need to ask those who were in Khartoum during the struggle or who were SPLA top leaders then or now. Ask one of the above mentioned persons and he/she will go down the lists marking all the great things Abel has contributed to the right of southerners inside or outside khartoum. To borrow the smart phrase which our hero Cdr. Thomas cerilo coined first time he defected from NIF to the SPLA "We were SPLA from within",He always acclaimed. Same thing to Abel, he was and still a southerner from within. As a human right lawyer , he has defend countless cases that NCP were using to prosecute southerners or marginalizes people in the capital. To ask a question, who stop the NCP/ Islamic government from tearing down the churches in the capital back in 90s? do your reseach and that is why we still dearly need him. Since CPA has become so sweet ,we have now begin to forget how it came about. Again,Ask yourself who lay the foundation of CPA before we even start to hear the rumours of its process ? and who gave John Garang and his top negotiators ( inexperience rebells) the legal advises on how to negotiate staunchly with not lossing a ground to canning NCP ? Clearly speaking,it was not other Khartom’s stooge as you label them such as Joseph Langu,Bona Mwalual, or Riak Gai but Molana Abel. He was selected due to his dimensional experiences coupled with his stature. He is a lawyer by profession, has experience dealing with enemy who was to negotiate with SPLA, and last being the key negotiator in Addis Ababa agreement. That makes him an important guidance to UN and CPA grantors. With that huge task on his shoulder , Abel in 1997 led the US envoys , UN’s staffs joined by John Garang to tour South-sudan.They were there to attest the harsh realities of Southern suffering. They past throught Narus and went on to other SPLA’s holding towns as my eyes witnes their passage. In 2003 he was thus called to Washington by state department in the same situation-the CPA negotiation.

So when did Abel became unimportant to us we Southerners if it’s not a mere tribal or personal hatred. Despite all with those acheivements mentioned above, i will not totally flush away your engraved tribal or personal hatred that has dogging you for most of your life , but at least i have tried my best to cure the lack of knowledge you may have inhaled in the air or inherited through your lineage.
last but not least, his ages are gone and it’s a due respect for all of you folks out there to give the old man the credits he has toiled for all these years. If Southerners are that so blinded as it happens on this website, then the heavenly father has watched enought and she will render him his deserved shares.
