January 6, 2010 (KHARTOUM) — Sudanese army has resumed daily bombardments in Darfur since the beginning of the New Year killing some five civilians in the restive region, a rebel group said today.

The Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) said Wednesday Sudanese military Antonov aircrafts bombed on daily basis civilian and rebel targets in West Darfur state since Sunday 3 January.

Speaking via satellite telephone Al Tigani Kurshaom, a JEM commander in the area, told Sudan Tribune that three children and two women were killed during the Antonov attacks as well as hundreds of camels belonging to the nomads in the areas.

The bombing included the areas of Al-Tamor, Abu Remail, Aljabat and Um Daraba in West Darfur state. Also the bombardment targeted some locations at the east of El-Geneina, the capital of the state.

"We regret that these indiscriminate attacks target mainly civilians and their livestock, said the deputy head of JEM nomad division who belongs to Darfur Arab tribes.

The rebel official further urged international protection of Dafur nomads saying Khartoum is targeting them now after their rejection to implement Khartoum plans in the region.

"Khartoum government is targeting the Arabs after they decided to join their hands with the rest of Darfur tribes. We are against the marginalization and the genocide of Darfuri because we are part and parcel of this region."

"The army now is attacking our people and the international community has to stop this new genocide particularly, the UNAMID which has to protect the civilians," he stressed.

JEM rebels signed a confidence building deal with the Sudanese government in February 2009 but the talks between the two sides stopped after Khartoum refusal to implement two conditions dealing with humanitarian situation and the release of its fighters detained in Khartoum.

Recently the mediation urged Khartoum to create a conducive environment for the peace process also the Joint mediator called on the government and rebel groups to sign a ceasefire agreement.

    • Darfur rebel leaders are very naive, let them taste the bitter pill, they have been warned many times not to give chnaces to NCP but they think they can get something from this Arabs, Darfur people still do not know Arabs well despite living with them, Darfur better ask for their self determination now or they will really regret later and there will be no one to help them because they missed their golden chance when they had one.

You need to know that south sudan did not succeed through fighting but through negotiation and help from outside.do not think that Spla are champion in fighting.unless you where just busy looting in Equatorin or Baher-el-ghazel when negotiation were going on in kenya.I think you have tradional thinking of solving problem.when will you change or it is Dinkas culture to take things by force.if you think spla are going to figth in 2011 you are planing looting again and sons and daugthers of Equatoria and Bahar-el-ghazel will never participate in that fighting.instead we shall kick your bullseats out.

  • Sudan kills five civilians in Darfur during aerial bombing - rebels 7 January 05:24, by The Sudanese Soldier/Builder

JEM is not a Rebel Group, it is a Rubbish Group.
That is what their act is saying about them! care about few fighters (less than one hunderd, including one half-brother of Khalil) and leaving 2 millions suffers in Camps. NOTHING is good enough for them, no mediator, no deals.. absolute nothing. Mr. khalil, do you want presidency? Run for it in the upcoming Election and let’s all rest in peace "alive!" for a moment, before we die.

    • we Have said several times that, so long as this barbaric regime of NCP criminals still holding command of things in Khartoum, the killing of innocent civilians in Darfur will not stop, it’s absolutely strange that when Khartoum spoke about peace and stability in the region to the media, they are in fact preparing for massive aerial and ground attacks. Furthermore, the regime was know resorting to using foreign militias, which means endangering the entire region.

Do u know the process to self-determination or you just waked up and say it meaning that it is for south sudan.you need to know what constitudes self-determination.
the result of the coming election will detarmine self-determination in south sudan.

      • you see the CPA process ends until 2011, around 9 january the time of referendum, it can not be changed or altered or tempered with untillt he interim period is finished as int he CPA agreemnent, the CPA outlines it inside the constitution of sudan, elections in 2010, then referendum in south sudan and Abyie, with also the consultations process in blue nile/south kodufan is the final stage of the peace process and interim period in Sudan history, without it the peace will be useless and all will go to square one, but who will be responsible to carry this burden if sudan goes back to square one, i do not think therte is one Sudanese who wants war or be responsible for that, that is why CPA is the only one that determines the futue of sudan, it is the road map to peace, stability, unity or seperation of sudan.

  • NCP will never ever listen to Darfur unless they show that they can make military achievements on the ground, if Darfur rebels can make military move and gain territory then the NCP will take them serious and negotiate with them based on equal levels, but unfortunately Darfur people will not get any benefits or good outcome of of this coming talks, NCP has already declared that is has won the war and Darfur is now peaceful, this means they are not ready to make any further consessions. I will urge Darfur leaders to stop sleeping in hotels and enjoying financial supports given to them, it is time for them to move gains on the battle field first, otherwise the future will be grim.

    • My blame goes to ICC leaders, what are they waiting with Bashir? I think Killing of civilians with no reason is painful to general public.Bashir Needs to do some corruption because his days are numbered. And What is the role of peace keepers in Darfur, are they consuming of resources claiming that they are protecting? The answer will be no and that is exactly they are.
