December 26, 2009 (KHARTOUM) — Sudan will start tomorrow Sunday to export first shipment of Ethanol produced by Kenana Sugar Company.

Last July President Omer Al-Bashir inaugurated the ethanol plant in Kenana, about 250 km south of Khartoum, where is located the main sugar factory in the country.

The factory is expected to produces 65 million liters during its first year and gradually will increase its annual production to reach 200 million liters in two years.

A first shipment of five million liters will be exported on Sunday to the European Union countries said the Director of Marketing at Kenana Sugar Company, Hassan Hashim Erwa. Also the company plans to export five million liters every month to other countries, besides the ongoing arrangements to use ethanol in Sudan as fuel for cars, he added.

The project of ethanol is a joint effort between the ministry of Energy, Kenana Company and Giad Company. The Brazilian Brazil’s Dedini Industrias de Base constructed the plant.

Sudan aims to be one of the largest states in the production of ethanol because of its potential in the area of the green fuel industry.
