Western Equatoria commemorates Worlds Aids Day

By Richard Ruati

December 2, 2009 (YAMBIO) – Thousands of Western Equatorians on Tuesday gathered in the capital of Western Eqautoria State (WES) to commemorate the World Aids day, as the prevalence of HIV/AIDs is on the increase in the region.

The Aids day came amid recent studies that indicate a rising number of HIV and Aids cases in the region.

Also a hospice in WES once again commemorated World AIDS Day by hosting a memorial services to mourn those who had lost their lives to HIV/AIDS.

World AIDS Day began in Yambio the WES’s capital with a hearing of messages from the HIV/AIDS victims.

Students, the Religious groups, people living with HIV and AIDS and local NGOs, participated in discussions on issues such as public uncertainty over the rules and position of the SSAC.

Western Equatoria is home to many people living with HIV but they are offered little access to support services and discrimination and stigma play a big role in many of their lives. The state has few CD4 testing facilities despite records confirming many cases of HIV.

The poor availability of subsidized anti-retroviral drugs (ARVs) has also caused a great deal of concern among people living with HIV, some of whom voiced these concerns during the Aids Day in Yambio.

Speaking during the Occasion in Yambio freedom square, DR Bilario , who also represented the Vice president of the Government of Southern Sudan (GOSS) ,conveyed the apology for the delay from Dr. Riek Machar to attend the important function due to his other official commitments.

However, Dr. Bilario expressed his happiness with the crowded citizens in Yambio ever since SSAC was established 4 years ago, “I have never seen such a crowd honoring the Aids day."

He stressed that, "the War against HIV is like any other war fought in the World, therefore SSAC in its determination to attain Victory is involved in manufacturing of weapons against the disease and 16 Million American dollars has been earmarked for the battle.”

He added that despite the efforts being done by the Government of Southern Sudan there is still high magnitude of HIV/AIDS in South Sudan due to low knowledge of the deadly disease, it continues border movements, risk life styles, polygamy amongst others therefore more efforts need to be exerted to fight the stigma only through leadership styles.

Dr Bilario asserted that the Ministry of Health GOSS will soon establish ARV’s in Yambio and provide two testing to WES, as it has become a priority of GOSS due to high rate of the disease in Western Equatoria State.

"Let us all together fight HIV/ AIDS from Southern Sudan," appealed Dr Bilario.

In addition, the Acting governor of WES Col Joseph Ngere Paciko added that, “the three enemies of WES are HIV, Ambororo and the LRA rebels from neighboring Uganda.

Col. Ngere appealed to the SSAC Chairperson include programs for the infected people to move in all the ten states of Southern Sudan with their testimonies as they carry positive messages.

Speaking during the occasion Grace Datiro who acted as minister of Health stressed that “the state ministry of health is highly engaged in intensive awareness and behavior changes as part of [our] responsibilities to fight the killer disease.”

"According to world framework which done in Geneva last October, it is the mandate and concern of GOSS to advocate for the fight against HIV/AIDS in Southern Sudan," Datiro added.

She appreciated the international Donors for their support in the provision of testing machine in the state and free ARV’s to patients which has reduced the transport cost to neighboring Uganda.

She also thanked the Christian brothers and Comboni sisters of Nzara for the devotion of their meager resources to support the HIV victims.

She revealed that, "out of the total infected people, about 4,661 are women and girls."

The Director of South Sudan AIDS Commission in WES Mrs. Jane Bangbe appreciated the GOSS for its unwavering support to the badly affected state of WES.

She pointed out that, "the infected people are under the umbrella of state," adding that, “the current statistics of infected people in WES has reached 7,622 positively living with HIV/AIDS positively.

The State Aids Commission is seeking help from GOSS and international organizations in the State to come up with income generating activities to help the Victims and to expand the program in other counties.

Good awareness to the people in WES and South as whole particular the mother of HIV J ranking at 95% +VE. I wonder who are those discriminating workers in WES according to the quote "offered little access to support services and discrimination and stigma play a big role in many of their lives" disease is something we should not reget because they don’t deserve to get it was an accident of been convicted +VE. I suport this awareness to let people in Greater Equatoria maintain their rate at 0.8% not more then 1%. However an increase is expected due to the present of people from our ex J state 95% +VE.

Logic is back fresh and far from tribal criticism

What did you tell you? I knew that The Great Equatoria has the largest number of HIV positives in the whole Southern Sudan. I used to live in Tumbura and Yambio in 1992 through 1994. I also used to live in Moli not far a way from Pageri. We were the first red army send to Moli. So I know all about Equatoria from East to West.

        Hold on Boys

The statistics is not accurate because the exmin of HIV was carried by eyes observation (try an error). For any WES person seen gaunt immediately they are consider +VE which is not true. Lot of people in WES have been living under poor feeding condition for the last 18 months due to the present of LRA in their state, this has worsen their bodies. Right now if you go to WES you will see that almost everyone in the affacted areas are really emacited like +VE which is not true just lack of nutrition in the their bodies for long time. The reporter of this article relays on the false inform provided by the local/traditional examiner who learned by observing. If Hiv people in Juba cannot be 1000 per person how can a small town of WES get higher?

I personally assure the facts and something confirmed by UN and WFP who are working in the region of WES. I have even seen some of the IDPs photos taken from WES, the people are reallying living worse condition. Especially when the WEP has suspend their aid due to the fear of LRA assulting their vehicle and staff. The aspects are sincerely unbelievable.

I know that you are working with United Nations mission in Sudan and you will soon be answerable to your malacious comments and misleading statements. HIV can appear between 5-10 years not 18 months as you claimed it. There is different b/n hunger and disease, so don’t bring in lame excuses of hunger.

The people reported were tested by both WHO, International Organizations, WES Ministry of Health and SPLA medical Corps using the most modern clinical technological equipment. The statistics were obtained from WES Ministry of Health. Right now the officials of WES are reading, they believe the statement 100%.

Please just accept the your weaknesses in Equatoria.

As I told you sometimes back, you equatorian only depend on food and sex.Now with your small population being reduced by HIV how are you going to get rid of Dinka.Dinka is a man for all with dignity and leadership life style. You like sex like animals that’s why all of you will die leaving that land for us.7,266 in WES alone plus 9,543 in Central equatoria,4,981 in Eastern equatoria. If you sum up the total will be 21,790 then subtract from your total population which is 21,676 you will get the negative HIV are 00,114.This means upto today the greater equatoria people not yet infected by HIV are only 114.What a hell to you guys.If the rest didn’t stop, including you logic boy and your mother, equatoria will soon be announced as a land of no people.

Can the figure of the people being affecting by HIV/AIDS our country/state and Payam help us? Why do we proud when we hear those news in all our areas, hereon we cannot blame those who are being affecting because this not inherits but only to deal with those who are safe. Any way we need to protect ourselves in way that no one cannot get infected .Therefore, the government of south Sudan can be blame because of their idles in the capital Juba but not extending mobiles voluntarily counseling and testing (VCT) to every county apart from the state’s VCT centre one day of testing cannot help the people of the state. Our people need to be engage all the time so that they can know the important of lives because they don’t. Thus responsibility is not a joke

This was what I told you guys yesterday. Thank God that the same news is repeated. You accused Jonglei of having 6 patients tested HIV +ve and I told you that there are about 400 under going treatment in WES, now today they are more than 4000. What a shame on BUSTA 2, his friends from Nuers and WES.

I believe next year, 70% of the people in Equatoria especially WES will live with HIV. In Warrap, only 0.01% popluation live with HIV.

          SPLA in Western Equatoria State.

James Hoth Mai and Abraham Nhial Deng.

You must make sure that, the SPLA must be protected in all Equatoria States special in Western Equatoria State and Juba inside. People love to have sex randomly, but they don’t know what will be the result and how to pervent the disase awarenes and yes, Western Equatoria State is leading Sudan with HIV Aids and it is your role to protected the SPLA in this problem.

Also marriage in Equatoria must be require both man and girl to be examine in Hospital before they get marriage that one will protect people from spread HIV Aids to Southern Sudanese Communities who have no knowledge on how to use condom procedures for the townes people.

The Equatorians you term as "POOR" are the only reasonable, hardworking, neat people in the whole of South Sudan.
Based on these facts, every ugly, dirty minded like cattles tend to abuse them bcs they enjoy the sound environments gifted by God.(free grass, forests, fruits weather etc...)
The fact of HIV is worldwide in the light of the influx of Refugees,Returnees & IDPs to WES.
Everybody is awake and knows the importance of condoms that is why the cases of new infections are retrograding in WES.
If only "Dinkas" are using comdons, why not " The People" of the greater Equatoria?

Please read your Equatorian message before jumping into fire. Read BUSTA 2 message who said Dinkas are using condoms to fuck their ladies, so increase in HIV in WES, can it be termed as Caused by Dinkas?

As you correctly put it as being spread by returnees, IDPs, immigrants such as Ugandans, Congolese, Kenyans etc., I believe no one will react. So inform your boys like Busta 2, Kim Deng, Gatwech & Logic_boy that the disease quickly spread as the Refugees, IDPs, Returnees and Neighbouring countries flow in.

Dinkas are smart if they are using condoms, unlike uninformed WES people.

I am not apologizing nor condoning my words, but maybe, I have gone to the extreme mentioning your close kins, and this was due to the fact that I have been keenly scrutinizing the harsh behaviors that you have shown to/about my people, the Dinka, which as a response, instigated openness to say anything that comes to one’s mind.

The bottomline is profanity does not hold fix lines, nor is it irreversible, thus, anyone is capable of doing it. If you engage in such harassments towards other, expect the same in turns.

Mind you, I have great respect for what you have said, that was having not always implicate people’s relatives in all your posts, but still, the tendence of hatred that you have about Dinka is immeasurable.

If i may not be wrong, there are times when you said things that are hurting though those tend not to be of any direction. For example, if you call people of certain tribe, more so Dinka, subhuman, then what is left to say if you regard your fellow country people like things that are no more then just animals. You went as far as comparing Dinka with monkeys in the jungle, is that perfecting any best description of any human person?

Also you and most others of the same mindsets have put Dinka on worst spotlight at internationals level. Don’t you know that what you write on the internet is accessible by anyone globally. If you translate child adductions which befitted Jungeli citizens in awful situation as child selling, which is more embarassing than anything else, do you think people will not believe what you are saying? People who know little or nothing about dinka may take it into account as a fact. You may always think that it is funny, but its way way bashing.

On the other hands, wishing certain tribe dead is not foolish, but satanic. You and your friend Logic love doing this. Unless, you may be outsiders, who just wanted to create tension between southern sudanese, there is no way anyone in southern sudan would want dinka as a tribe to disappear on the map of south sudan.

History speaks the volume here, anybody with sound mind would not ignore what Dinka has done as part of a collective efforts by the Southerns sudanese. we, the Dinkas may not be golden tribe in Sudan, but our absence, as people wish so will not be so good. We need each other.

Back to you point, describing me as somebody with no ethnical trends as predetermines by the tribe I belong was provincial. In essence, morality has no borders, and it is not to least, the basis for defining certain group as a people and their behavioral perspectives. Morality in terms of one person is individualistic, thus, my personal behaviors may not apply to every Dinka person.

You must also know that every society has it own social ills, but those social problems, if done by one or two people should not be applied as hallmarks describing that tribe, and that is the little piece that you and many other anti.dinka stooges seem to be missing.

I hope you somehow change on matters concerning Dinka as a tribe.

                Axan you are wrong brother,

First of all the reasons why we always point finger at your tribe Dinkas is well known and why we compare you to monkey is simply to enable you see how they behave in the forest and how harass they are and that is how you people do.

For your information, if you need people to stop talking about your tribe, try to talking with them so that they should stop bad manner and be have like others in South Sudan and as long as they remain doing bad things, we will continue exposing your weakness and compare to anything bad in this World so that you can learn from.

I personal will not abuse your mother though I blame them from failing to teach good manners!!!

Is there anything to be proud of in such a situation? When your limb is paining, your whole body will experience it. Western Equatoria is part of Southern Sudan and we in our states should not enjoy seeing such a huge figure of infected people (7,622) living with the disease. That automatically shows that we in Southern Sudan are not nationalist at heart. If 7,622 people died of AIDS in one State, who do you think will be left in Southern Sudan in 2020?.
