By James Gatdet Dak

November 11, 2009 (JUBA) – The highest organ of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), the Political Bureau, holds a meeting in Juba beginning on Thursday to discuss the latest political developments in the country.

In a press statement shortly after his arrival from Khartoum on Wednesday, the party’s Secretary General, Pagan Amum Okech, said the party’s Chairperson, Salva Kiir Mayardit has called for the meeting.

Amum said the CPA was at a critical stage, but assured that the SPLM was ready for the elections.

The meeting, he explained, would dwell on a number of issues associated with the upcoming elections, contentious census results, referendum for the South and Abyei as well as respective popular consultations for Nuba Mountains and Southern Blue Nile.

Amum said there was danger of the South losing one-thirds representation in the national parliament if the 2008 census results, which he described as “fake,” were to be applied in redistribution of power sharing in the National Assembly.

“…According to the use of census results where Southern Sudan loses nearly one-third of its seats because of the fake census results; losing 54 out of 150, and the South will be remaining with only 96 seats,” he said.

He urged potential voters to turnout for voter registration to vote for the right leaders.

    • Dear brothers & sisters,

People have to tell Pagan & the SPLM leadership that the years of brutality, racism and injustice that south sudanese and the other marginalised Sudanese experienced under successive regimes in khartoum has to end in independence of south sudan comes 2011. There is awakening among south sudanese public minds except the current SPLM leadership. This injustice from the center(khartoum) has created perfect smoke screen to demand our independence. Sudan is one of the racist place in this earth.

Let the north goes with its perfect way of islamic life, otherwise sudan will be in the state of turmoil and strife for another 50 years if unity is forced by minority unionist clique. Pagan Amum needs to tell the truth!! Given a broader perspective, unity of sudan is not an attractive option in any sane person’s mind. Please get out of the way of pride of south sudanese. People without a knowledge of their past are like trees without roots!! let’s the south go NOOOW!!!

      • DINKA DOMINATED SPLA IS AN ARAB

Both Nuers and Dinkas need to be beware of this guy call Dinka dominated SPLA. He is not a Dinka, he is an Arab working hard to create more chaos in our midst. There is nothing any sound minded person will gain from Riek’s death. Arabs wish him death so that Dinkas and Nuer turn on each other. This is more likely to be their next move in creating chaos in the South. They say in Kiswahili: "Vita ya ganzi ni furaha ya kunguru" It means: "War of the grasshoppers is always the pleasure of the crow. " Chaos and war among ourselves is always their gain. They may even kill Kiir and that is why they reported him dead two weeks ago in Khartoum.

        be vigilant.

        • Chol,

I agreed. This guy is an Arab in disguise. The Nuers, Dinkas, Equatoria, Chollo & their other brothers & sisters in south would always agree to disagree on issues. But they are the same nuclear family or blood family. It wil always be in the parameter of family affairs. The jellaba wants to eliminates all these brothers & sisters with no exception in south. But we don’t alwyays have to forget to correct and tell each others the truth though we end up accusing each others.

        • Amhed Chol, you right brother, you completely discovered the disguising fellow, the Dinka dominated SPLA is completely Jalaba, no body will bother about his troublesome deeds. Let him do his rubishes, if we really analyse the reality in relation to his comment, what has Riak Machar done wrong at this time? The answer is no. But because of his own hidden agenda, that is why he uttered those disturbing words.

Thanks Ahmed Chol you discovered him right a way.

        • Ahamed Chol.

I am strongly disagree in your comment. Dinka Dominate Boy do not like killer Riak Machar Teny just like me. I have so many reasons for why I don’t like Nyagat Riak Machar Teny. First of all Riak had signed oil with Arab to be drill meawhile, he knows that there is still SPLA/SPLM Movement fighting same problems and he run a way leaving hundred of billion dollars to Sudan government to buy war weapons and Airplanes to use it against Southern Sudanese people and Darfuriaan people, this oil was supposedly to be sign after peace agreement which combining all ReBELS in Southern Sudan.

Second to that,Riak Machar Teny orders SPLA Nassir to kills 100 Dinkas SPLA officials officers in Nassir, will you call him vice president or bad enemy.? He also orders his soldiers to come to Dinka Bor as a way of forcing Dinka Bor civilians to followed him to his defaction Neur or if they refused then, they will started killing them as they did exactly on June,1993. Do you want this kind of person to lead you or face jail if Southern Sudanese are not lacking in law system.

Those 100 SPLA of Dinkas officials officers they were all educated people including Dr, Akoon Ariik Dhuor, the son of chief in Warrap community. Do you think the death of 100 SPLA Dinkas officials offices in Nassir is good.? We would like him to be kill too just like the way he had killed these 100 people in Nassir.

Riak Machar Teny had sent Peter Gatdet to killed SPLA/SPLM deputy chairman William Nyuon Bany and again he send same person Peter Gatdet to killed first deputy Kerubino Kuanyin Bol and a part from his destruction he made otherwise, the peace agreement would have come to reached us while the SPLA should be heading to Khartoum directely in deeeper Northern Sudan. I hate Riak Machar Teny not because he is from Neur absolutely there is nothing like that but because the damaged he did in Southern Sudan killing children and women on June, 1993, that painful will not go a way until Riak Machar Teny dead.

          • I agree with you Ahmed. Dinka people are very tolerant and not tribalised. Remember all the forces that were fighting against them in the 80s from Fartit of Wau to Mundari and off course the Nuers white Armies. Now they have welcome all these people back becuase the strategy of the NCP is to keep us a part. Please do not attack Dr. Riak Macar he is a senior member of our government. He is doing a good job by staying with his people donot forget that he is supported by many Dinkas

SPLM has been holding fruitless politburo meetings several times. They always skip the issue of nominating candidates. I hope this time it should be the priority in this meeting. Otherwise the Sudanese people will see it as a joking political party. The world will not take it serious. How come we are left with few months and the so-called challenger of NCP does not know who their candidates are. This is one of the reasons why people are reluctant to register because they see SPLM not ready for elections. They should this time tell to the people of Sudan and the world who their candidates are.

As for Pagan Amum, this communist boy produced in Cuba, is always looking for crisis. He thinks it is that easy to create a crisis and run to his mansion in Denver, Calorado, USA. He was hiding in Egypt during the war and has not tasted the real bitter part of it.

I do believe SPLM would come out of this particular Political Bureau meeting with a vision that it is time to move forward with strong deliverance on election. What was already brewing in SPLM leadership psyche was confusions& trivial politics. This is the moment of the truth regardless of their preferred secrecies. Their election preparations are a bit late. But it is better late than never!! There is no alternative to election unless we want to jump the gun and prematurely declare war(UDI).

Salva Kiir ordered the 2008 census to go ahead in south sudan. The same Kiir also selected Abel Alier to be the NEC chairman in 2010 upcoming election. But we all failed to understand Kiir’s basis of complains now. Why complaining at all on SPLM’s self-inflicted wounds? Therefore, SPLM is responsible for census in south and appointment of Alier. So where is the legal basis for the complain? It is really bizzare. There are no positive stategic and political moves so far coming from SPLM.

  • "Amum said the CPA was at a critical stage, but assured that the SPLM was ready for the elections."

I cannot compherend this statement quoted above because of the tense used by the reporter.

So, CPA was in a critical stage and now is in a stable condition, is this what the reporter meant?

The same thing with "but assured that the SPLM was ready for the elections." Does Amum means that SPLM has pull out from elections or what?

A primative person like myself as stated by Intellectualised Gatwech would not understand such statement, so I need someone to help me with James Gadet’s English.

Anyway that statement to me, implied that SPLM in this Political Bureau meeting may be discussing "Boycotting Elections, and asking SSLA for UDI of South Sudan."

But if my anticipation is true, then what elections does SPLM wants to boycott? Federal ones, or altogether with Southern Sudan presidential (Electing the President of GOSS) and Parliamentarian ones?

      Akoi Liai Mager,

You should talk of Sudan election but forget about South or GOSS election. Kiir is and will remain the president until 2011. Anyone thinking of south election is daydreaming. We will not allow that to happen comes what. This is time to focus on the right pass of south independent which can not be successfully achieved by anyone other than Kiir.

History can not be allowed to evade us in the last minute by incompetent leaders longing for presidency position. Kiir must wear both caps- the south presidency and the Sudan vice president.

If Riek Machar wish to be a president he must go and stand against Bashir. He will not rule the south until the day of his last breath.

      Kiir juu!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Akol Liai,

You are right. Pagan Amum’s contradicting English language has become a problem. But for somebody like me who always follow his statements through the media, it is very easy for me to comprehend what he said. For you is difficult, may be. Well, the SPLM has always been suggesting boycotting the elections as an option. Didn’t you read the Juba declaration with those of Dr. Al-Turabi and Al-Mahdi? If you did not get that you are in limbo. The reporter has done his best for you but you seem to be in darkness. Others have not complained like you have done but instead went straight to their comments on the article.

In Pagan Amum’s language that always attracts a crisis, I think he meant that the CPA was at a critical stage because of the uncertainties in elections, disputed census results, unsettled referendum bill, etc. I thought the reporter mentioned these which would have helped you comprehend. But you failed to get it too.

Well, in the ’but’ Pagan said the SPLM is ready for elections. That is a lie! How can it be ready when it doesn’t even have candidates, let alone when can such candidates make campaign in this vast land of Sudan within the next few months. Akol Aliai, most readers can easily comprehend what Pagan says unless you don’t follow his statements. Or you are just trying to coverup!

If you are in the dark and did not hear about the agenda of the current political bureau meeting, then Kiir himself called the meeting to announce his a candidate who would stand against Bashiir.

Moreover, Kiir is going to declare his candidacy for the presidency of the South. Well if your candidate against Kiir is Riek Machar then you should be prepared for the worst.

    • Blaming the Jalabba as usual!!Does it work ? Does it solve any problem?

1-The census in the south was conducted by Southerners only, no JALABBA ..not a single one.Morever the JALABBA who came as supervisers were ordered by the SPLA to leave the south and were not allowed to supervise anything!! Yet , as usual the jalabba has cheated us!!!Idon’t know how!!

2-South Sudan right no is COMPLETELY AND FULLY INDEPENDENT STATE.Nobody in the NORTH is expecting you to vote for unity.Just go and vote for secession and that is it!!Finished !!The CPA will be comletely implemented!

3-What this communist doing in Khartoum, he has to stay in the south to mobilize people for the election and the refereundum instead of playing communist tactics with commarade Arman just to delay the election so that they could remain on power as long as possible and continue the looting. Now could you tell what benifet they got by boycotting the parliment?

4- Nobody is interested in creatiing divisions or hatred among you. This is created by the corrupt officials of your own government, because they could only thrive in such atmosphere of hatred and divsions, so that they can loot and loot. For god sake these people had looooooted almost $ 3 BILLIONS( THREE BILLION US DOLLARS) from only one ministry!!!! This has never happened and will never happen anywhere in the world!!!Yet you still blame the jalabba, and your minister of finance is begging the looters , and thieves to return the money! very funny indeed..hate the jalabba as much as you can but this will never bring your money back to feed the starving children in the South!

5-PLEASE DO NOT HAVE ANY ILLUSION THAT THE NORTH IS AGAINST YOUR SECESSION ;RIGHT NOW YOUA ARE AN INDEPENDENT STATE AND YOU ARE RULING US. WE ARE NOT INDEPENDENT...SO STOP RULING US AND YOU HAVE YOUR OWN SEPARATE STATE . THAT IS MUCH BETTER THAN LOOSING TOO MUCH ENERGY IN HATRED.

    • Read/listen to this:

      Dear All;

Is it a democracy or exploitation of property rights of Bentiu States?

Let me begin by telling you a quick story about Gambella, Ethiopia oil disputes relocation. It is not long ago, Prime Minister, Meles Zenawi wants to build a pipe line from Gambella to his hometown so that his people should benefit more than any citizens in Ethiopia. He knows refinery should create a lot of jobs for his people, which in turn his hometown should have hug taxes and surpluses, and then they should build schools, hospitals, roads and reinvest in. However, Oromo encounters with the Prime minister’s proposal that he cannot take pipeline from Gambella to his state by jumping it over Oromo’s state. So Oromo claims their proximity that they are closest to Gambella. Fortunately, Gambellans jump in. Hey, it is in our state so we can do it here in Gambella. But the question is, are Gambellans going to success to refrain refinery in their state even though they have less power? The refinery case is pausing and still pending in Ethiopia now.

When we come to this issue, it is very sensitive and impossible to take pipeline from Bentiu-Nuer State to Warrap-Dinka State because they think they have a power to do it. This creation of tribal government will provoke war and devastation of some states. Last time, Dinka divided government positions into Dinka sections and no one said anything about it by the sake of CPA. Once again, they want to use their superiority by collecting wealth from non-Dinka areas to Dinka areas. If that is not the case, what is wrong with refinery to be built in Bentiu areas? Tell me.

Bentiu needs a lot of works to be done in order to prevent diseases that caused by oil. As we all know oil cause cancer and other many major diseases. First of all, we need to hear from government about what to do with residents who are going to suffer from oil pump. When you pump oil, make sure people are going to get sick. So hospitals and cleaning water are supposed to be the first things to be done for disease prevention before any pumping, or oil drill take place. Because person in the power is not from Bentiu, he ignores all these major issues. He plans to make state a work zone and leave residents unprotected. This was done by Europeans long time ago. They polluted area by pumping oil out and did not clean water for residents to die. That is what happened today in Bentiu. We pumped oil out. We let it go into water and left it unsolved for Bentiu-Nuer to drink it and die from it.

I got four questions for you

      1. Does Dinka’s administration do any things about Bentiu-Nuer residents’ health instead of focusing on taking oil to Warra-Dinka State to enrich themselves quickly? 2. If Bentiu would have been a Dinka State, do you think Kiir should have relocated refinery to Nuer State? 3. If your answer is no, how do you think the Nuer reaction would be? 4. Do you think Dinka will use oil, if they get control of it, against Nuer and others instead of using it for our country prosperity and security for all?

If Bentiu-Nuer are stupid enough to let Warrap-Dinka takes oil in front of their eyes and builds it in their state and makes themselves richest, then, they (Nuer) will be second class citizens and live poor forever just by make simple mistake like that. I hope they will not let it happen with the help of others.

Dinka ambition is to take all southern Sudan resources into the heartland of Dinka to feel secure. They know that power without wealth is useless. They currently control the government key positions that is fined they said, but they are not yet fully control the resources which is very disturbing in the mind of Dinka elites.

Look at the military structures. All Dinka are heads of any department. That is why you see the brand new tanks, military equipments, and many more are located in Warrap State which they call it “Dinka Central Power” (DCP). Nuer and others are commoners and subordinates in both military and civil adminstrations. They are made deputies to assist Dinka’s administrations. We are tried of this nepotism system. But I hate more to hear that Dinka’s power, once again, wants to take oil pipeline to Warrap without consent of Bentiu citizens.

      1. Why they don’t take it to other state rather than Warrap-Dinka State or DCP if this is not an ambition plan?

I am very sure that Nuer Community and Nuer intellectuals who know-how will do something about this decision very soon otherwise there is no democracy and rule of law.

I am not a tribalist, but I am advocate for those who can’t do it for themselves.

      Thank you all,
