AU chief hits at ICC indictment of Sudan’s president

October 28, 2009 (KHARTOUM) – The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Jean Ping reiterated his position regarding the indictment of the Sudanese president by the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Ping questioned at a press conference on the sidelines of the Pan African Parliament in Midrand, South Africa as to why cases in Africa are the focus of international justice.

“Why Africa only? Why were these laws not applied on Israel, Sri Lanka and Chechnya and its application is confined to Africa?” he said.

The AU official also suggested that former US president should be prosecuted for invading Iraq in 2003 saying that it was based on “false claims” and a “violation of international law”.

“Why are African leaders being put to trial?” he asked.

The Gabonese official has been outspoken in his criticism of the court since the indictment of Bashir accusing it of targeting Africans only and shying away from powerful western nations.

The ICC is currently handling 4 cases consisting of Uganda, Central African Republic (CAR), Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Darfur.

With the exception of Darfur all other cases have been referred voluntarily by their respective governments to the ICC for investigation.

The UNSC issued resolution 1593 under chapter VII in March 2005 referring the situation in Darfur to the ICC. At the time Tanzania and Benin voted in support of the resolution while Algeria abstained.

The African continent makes up the majority of the ICC members with 30 countries being signatories of the Rome Statute which forms the basis of the court.

Ping is currently in Abuja, Nigeria where the AU Peace and Security Council (PSC) is set to start on Thursday with a main focus on the report compiled by a high-level AU panel led by South Africa’s former president Thabo Mbeki.

The team was mandated to examine the situation in Darfur “in-depth” and propose ways on "how best the issues of accountability and combating impunity ... could be effectively and comprehensively addressed”.

The report obtained by Sudan Tribune made an implicit endorsement of the ICC suggesting that it should be allowed to prosecute individuals who bear the greatest responsibility for the crimes committed in Darfur.

It also recommended hybrid courts for Darfur with participation of foreign judges, a proposal which Sudan has flatly rejected in the past.

Ping has sent a letter to Bashir on Thursday on Tuesday ahead of the summit in which he ““expressed his desire to reach ideas before the Peace and Security Council meeting in Abuja” according to Sudan state media.

Asked on the content of the letter Ping said he would not disclose it but expressed disappointment that Bashir would not attend after international and local rights groups had called for his arrest in Nigeria.

Sudan will be represented by 2nd Vice president Ali Osman Taha.

The AU chief urged all Darfur parties to sit down for talks and refrain from military solutions saying that the latter is not the way forward

He also stressed that the Darfur conflict is now a low intensity adding that some international players “do not want to hear this fact”.

The UN says up to 300,000 people have died and 2.7 million fled their homes since ethnic minority rebels in the western region of Darfur first rose up against the Arab-dominated government in Khartoum in February 2003.

The Sudanese government disputes the death toll saying 10,000 people died.

Dear Jean Ping, your question to ICC is good why is Afica alone but, ICC is trying to reduce the crime in Africa. I think you have seen the way that people in Darfur were been killed by Al Bashir, is it good for you to late the Leaders in Africa do such crime to kill their people like that? If it is good for please live Sudan alone to be in peace.

Jean Ping or Jealous Pig animal

I think you are not a human to lead these 54 Africa Countries [AU ] in the AU Chief you must not fool world and I think you made more Sudanese people feels sad than your Idiot disappointed and I think you are real a Dog man in Africa if I forgotten to remind you that, your name was considering now as a jealous Pig animal otherwise, if your name was Jean Ping then, you should not made that comment that, you are disappointed not to see killer Hassan Omar al Bashir attending your bribe meeting while, there are hundred of thousands in Darfurian are deying innocents in the Sudan government.

Jean Ping/Jealous Pig, I would like to express my vocal even if you don’t read that is okay, I think the world is changing from now and that is why you can see or hear most of the Sudanse people don’t like the way Omar al Bashir’s government is killing cilvilians who were living poorly at their viallges and there is no reason for you to make comparison with stupid people in the Middle East and so forth, if the Bashir is muerdering his own ctizens then, he should not be allowing to attending such Important even because he doesn’t know how to do good things in her Country and quite frankly he is not Important person any more to atten any event in the world and I do support the quick action to be taken soon rather than later to arrest this killer Omar al Bashir, for being still present in Sudan has cause many clashes because of him, he is still bribering none Arab so that they can killing each other for no reason and I don’t see any reason for the U.N. to make delayment on Omar al Bashir case, this is a clear case and has to be done so that the rest of Africa Military dictatorship will know that, they will be like Hassan Omar al Bashir if they don’t act honestly to their own citizens perhaps, the law for the ICC Judges will not stop in Omar al Bashir until all world leaders understand the rights for any human to live on Earth.

Africa leaders don’t even read what was done in the past years in the other world as a matter of fact that, the indictment of the head of State Sudanese president was not begin from Omar al Bashir according to my knowledge, there were many leaders like this killer Hassan Omar al Bashir in South America, Europe who apparently made her nation mess up same things as this Omar al Bashir did and they have been arrested and some of them were been relase in recently, Omar al Bashir he is still thinking that, he will hide himself within Sudan Country unfortunately, the Northern Sudan have got no more Mountaint in there for Hassan Omar al Bashir to hidden himself good advice for him and turn himself to the ICC Judges no late than this year.

Finally, since the indictment was been pass to Hassan Omar al Bashir, we have seen him that he was making jokes about Western nations as I am a Sudanese native, I was surprised to see many things appeared in Omar al Bashir’s arrogantness particular, he was laughing too much, too proudly, too Idiot and I had never seen him laughing like that before even during 21 years civil war, Omar al Bashir did not shown such arrogant leader in the SPLA and SAF war however, we Sudanese people have observing him very closly hence, the common answer which we have find was the lack of advice from his Party known as National Congress, the Party for killing innocents people. Other things also we can tell the world was a signs of encouragement made by this National Congress Members, they were telling Omar al Bashir not to accept or not to give up to the ICC Judges and ther is a good argument to make that, it assume to be same things happen during Saddam Hussein when Mr, Saddam was about to give up to the U.N. but his general commanders were pushing him to the fire which the generals were demanding war solution until we all saw him being captured like Rat in the hold if that this happen like that, then this poorly million of Sudanese people even thoigh we have no good credit line in the world we will brorrow money to make Party to tell Hassan Omar al Bashir that, good beye now for your going to hell. I have been written the story of Rat in many times, they Rats who run under grass, when the wild fire catch fire on the grass, all Rats running to hidden themselves in the hold but later when the Red fire Tongue threw hoter in to the hold then, all Rats will surrender to the wild fire, for the Sudanese president Omar al Bashir, he was been visiting 7 Countries after his refusal to the ICC Judges and he was been laughing all these period even he was making some jokes about White people unfortunately, Omar al Bashir has realizing lately that, there is a rule of law now and that case will not go a way and that is why he had been absent in many Important even to atten as a head of State. Omar al Bashir I would recommending that, he must be capture like the Rat who run nowhere to hide under grass roots as Saddam Hussein of Iraq he was a good example for Hassan Omar al Bashire.

Where was Mr. Jean Ping During those On-going Genocides to the Beloved People of Darfur?

I believe that being the Chairperson of the African Union Commission is meant to protect rights, privacy and legality of the innocent people of Africa in general but Ping commissions and objectives are to protect criminal leaders whom their vision hits black Africans to end in death and/or victimisations.

Mr. Ping is also a liable person to be convicted on Criminal Act of Negligence. Ping failure to provide protection to the vulnerable people of Africa from their corrupted leaders is being an opportunity to block the ICC. We did not know if there is a chairperson of African Union. Ping must also be brought to justice for his failure to act on the interests of African people but encouraging the inhuman acts on Africans.

There is no doubt that ICC shy away from prosecuting war criminals from powerful Western nations, but i got no sympathy for our brutal president mr Omar al Beshir. He brought this on himself by ordering mass extermination of Darfurians, thinking he will go unnoticed by the international community like he did during the north-south civil war.

    • Dear all:

Ping as a chairpeson of African union commission has right to object any move that could undermine the soverienty, morale values and obligations of the continent despite western dominated ideology. If you are to define this set of international law,its not only enacted for the developing world but also for the develope world. This law apply to any individual who committed crime against humanity no matter whether from the west, east or north,we are all subject to this law. Therefore, don’t try to jumb and criticise those African’s leaders and intellectual elites who are now trying to correct African old set up of government institutions based on western policy of divide and rule, which still dragging Africa down for years without having self-reliable government till now.Go away with your western minds and let Africa go blind alone as you think with your western’s masters.African leaders have right to weigh and recommend any crime committed by individuals without foriegn intervention and pressure and that’s good starting point of how African should responsibly be able to handle and solve their own problems. I do appreciate and encourage them to move on with this innovative and brave idea.

We are not longer under any colonial regime to dominate and rule. That era had already been over and over.Don’t just talk because Umar is our enemy, but talk beyond the reasonable boarder.Am south Sudanese by myself but i always pray to African people on how to be independent, active and responsible in these areas of rule of law, governnance and accountibilities.Africa should not be the same as before during the colonial regimes. So don’t blast such usefull idea for the reason of one man who will be leaving tomorrow. Thanks all.

God be with ICC UNSC Genocide Watch and human anti genocide human rights activists.

Jean Ping instead of resigning from your post why you try to protect Bashir?

Do you think you are correct by saying since other suspects are not accused the rest of criminals must kill innocent civilians?

Let me ask you one question Let us say your neighbor was killed by his neighbor and the killer is not arrested.

Your other neighbor came and killed one of your loved ones. Do you agree not to arrest the killer of your loved one just because the killer of your neighbor is not arrested? If you can answer my question in correct way you never disagree with ICC.

God be with ICC UNSC and Genocide Watch for helping people of Darfur by arresting Bashir.

None-gallant government which is headed by stupid leader and is an African blood scavenger person that is Mr. Jean short up! Are you still defending Mr. Bashir! There is one proverb said, if you are blaming a stupid person he is blaming you too, if you are shielding Mr. Bashir, you are needleizing his horn to yourself not only South Sudan but also you the African leaders who still supporting him. We are tired with Bashir, you the ICC leaders come and take him away with us; you know that; you look like the father who left his property behind and his dog play with them.

Its time for him no another time. If you give him abide of chance, he will make huge of money for you so that you would fail to take him to ICC. For now if you are still leave Mr. Bashir inside us and kill the people, what’s human right?

Enough is enough. When African leaders emphasis as brave, LUMP SUM is already secured. We all know these days wicked African leaders are lobbying for trial. Omar Hassan al Bashir must be trial. If you can say "With the exception of Darfur all other cases have been referred"

Why not him to be trial? These days Africa Union is being drives by Arab- African. Africa Union is alright is at hands of Arabs today. It is right to take president Bashir when there are no Changes in Darfur region. The Darfurians are still today suffering from war days and nights. AU "is just like a sign-post" at this belonging to the present time, not an organization with visions and objectives to serves the African’ interest. Au seek like organization of hiding crimes in Africa as a region. Let’s kept on crying for Darfur but, not south Sudan.
