Botswana affirms position on ICC warrant for Sudan president

October 24, 2009 (WASHINGTON) – The government of Botswana this week reiterated its support to bring Sudanese president Omer Hassan Al-Bashir to justice.

The prosecutors at the International Criminal Court (ICC) accuse Bashir of masterminding a campaign to exterminate African tribes in Sudan’s Western region of Darfur.

The African Union (AU) has adopted a resolution last July instructing its members who are signatories of the Rome Statute, which is the founding text of ICC, not to cooperate in apprehending the Sudanese president.

However, Botswana dissented from the AU position and accused the Libyan leader Muammar Kaddafi of forcing the resolution upon the members without debates.

The Sudanese First Vice President Salva Kiir who is on a visit to Gaborone had lunch with Vice President Lt Gen. Mompati Merafhe, the Botswanaian foreign ministry said in a statement.

At the luncheon Merafhe said that the cause of the people of Southern Sudan was just and Botswana supports their fight against injustice as well as intolerance perpetrated by the North.

“It is for the same reason, that Botswana has found it fitting to pronounce its position on the indictment of President Al Bashir by the International Criminal Court,” he said.

Vice President Merafhe said impunity must not be tolerated, and the ICC must not be prevented from carrying out its mandate as per the Rome Statute.

The Botswanaian official stressed that his country “is certainly committed to seeing a Sudan at peace with itself as well as with all her neighbors”.

Kiir said that although Botswana was geographically far from Sudan, it has lessons which could be of importance to the people of Southern Sudan such as in management of resources.

This, he said, could be done through some formal exchange programmes such as in the areas of human resources development and in the management of natural resources

During his visit, the First Vice-President of Sudan paid a courtesy call to Botswanaian president on His Excellency the President Ian Khama.

Kiir was accompanied by the Presidential Advisor on Gender and Human Rights, Rebecca Nyandeng de Mabior; Minister of Sudan People’s Liberation Army Affairs (SPLA), Lt. Gen. Nhial Deng Nhial; Minister of Regional Cooperation, General Oyay Deng Ajak; Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Dr. Samson Kwaje; Minister of Energy and Mining, Hon. John Jok and other senior government officials.

Bashier must be arrested and hang like Saddam Hussein. Mr Iraq president was hang because of the similar destructions made by Omar El Bashier. Saddam Hussein exterminate or cleanse Kurds in Iraq. Likewise, Bashier make ethnic cleansing to the people of Darfur in 2003. Saddam was killed because he was very aggressive in the world views: he test chemical weapons to many countries ;for example, Kuwait, South Korea, and USA. Like Omar who have aggression with the people of Southern Sudan in which he ordered majihadins to attacked Southerners. Saddam Hussein was hang because he sponsored Bin Laden likewise Bashier who sponsored him and helped the trorrists to bomb Newyork and US embassy in Kenya too.
The two individuals i mention above have similar characteristics that ICC must treat the remainder with the similar to Saddam Hussein.

President Kiir has already achieved much by cementing relations with African countries that are a success story on the continent. You don’t win friends by staying within your borders. You must reach out to all African countries and make the case for your people. This is precisely what Salva Kiir is doing.

But because you hate his success, you are eager to find fault with it.

listen losers I have no time to debate with you, but I’ll tell you one thing, your indecive King Salva Kiir has failed south Sudan completely and everyone knows this. you both claimed that i hate his sucess, what sort of sucess are you really talking about? unless you are talking about his personal sucess if that is so, then it has nothing to do with south Sudan’s affair.

Kiir has achieved a lot in south sudan, that why your mom is not now in slavery. You got that.Your weaked mindset is your own problem, because you never undestand how political work. The only political all nuers knew is the road lead to food distrbution. So my advice to you Mr. Nile you need to learn to sacrifice your effort. There is no success without sweat or many bump on the road. The CPA was not achieved of running to kartoum for gamling and come back ro south to pretent. It was a sweat from people who sacrifice their life.I would suggest, you better go back to khartoum where ypou used to hide, and Kiir will still achieved everything withou your contribution.Thanks.Tiop Maker.

Before resorting to name calling, look hard in the mirror and you will not have to go far to discover a loser. South is a far better country that what it was 4 years ago. Just imagine inheriting a country with no infrastructure, and nothing that resembles development. This is not an easy starting point. It is like taking exam without having stepped into a classroom. You are doom to be have difficulties but that does not mean you are going to give up.

I know you sound like those people supporting jallabah in order to gain access to power in the South. People of South will not allow themselves to be ruled by those imposed from the north. If you are a DC member, come to the South and contribute to development. Don’t just criticize without offering solutions.

Salva Kiir Mayardit with his Team have managed to secure the supports from all African countries they have toured. The supports Mr Mayardit got from those countries including Botswana is crucial for African and international community support for a unilateral declaration of Independence (UDI) should things go badly with the NIF and Northern racist and sectarian parties. This tour made great achievements for separatists.

Is securing Botswana support for South Sudan and UDI a bad idea for you? unless you are a unionist otherwise, you should support it.

I am not a supporter for UDI, or Separation by now until NIF manage to separate the North from rest of the Country by rigging next year elections and declare herslf the winner.

Guys I told you long ago that the Arabs hate for others is a genetic factor. If stupid Africans continued to trust on them then Africa one day will be Arb continent. the Twenty first century slavery that is happening for African blacks in Mauritnia is not far to happen anywhere in Africa as long as African hand down their will to Arabs.

Gaddafi persist to call Darfur problem as a problem of a stollen camel, can you imagine?

The move by ICCJ is the good news for the people of Africa who are suffering form tyranny regimes led by ethno-centered individuals calling themselves (president or whatever) of a country. However, horrific news for those perpetuating ethno-centered agenda over entire population, indeed those living under such regimes know well about such individuals. I wanted to congratulate the people and the government of Botswana for the support the idea of ICCJ to bring Sudanese president Omer Hassan Al-Bashir to justice.

This shows the commitment of the government of Botswana to human right and rule of law, and I call upon other democratic sates of Africa to follow suit with the government of Botswana.

      Yes Solomon!
Indeed, it is a good means to teach hypocrite African “leaders” those making our homeland a hell and forced us to live in exile. It is also a means to enforce democratic governance in Africa. So it should not stop with the guy only but also target such leaders in Africa or any where in the world. USA (the Obama Administration) should show its commitment to all and should stop giving protection for those criminals in the name of “her strong allies”. There is no obedient individual allay by avoiding such leaders US can create strong alliance with the people not criminals.

The position taken by the Botswana is not only a pride to the eyes of lovers of justice but also to those who are God fearing nation. No wonder Botswana was ranked position 4 in Africa according to Mo Ibrahim Foundation with regard to governance. The Libyan stance on President Bashir is totally dictatorial and would not yield to the so called united state of Africa. The Botswana people must be proud of their leaders.
