Dr. Lam Akol’s flunkies: Stand behind your comments!

By Luk Kuth Dak

July 21, 2009 — Some of Dr. Lam Akol’s die-heart flunkies try to abuse and intimidate you when you write an opinion on the chairman of the so-called SPLM-DC. They went pretty much for you to be their friend or their enemy, you are either a tribalist or an SPLM, an idiot or a genius. It’s not always a correct assumption, but it goes with the territory.

Like most of us who publish opinions papers from time to time in Sudan Tribune or elsewhere, we know that we are going to get some feedbacks. And it’s not all going to be pretty. And that’s fine, too. I often learn a thing or two from some of the bad e-mails.

But there is one thing that I have never been able to stand; E-mail cowards.( I mean those who comment on the opinions).

As you may know, I normally put my name and e-mail address out there with any article I write. When you read my words, you know who wrote them.

Not so with the e-mail cowards.

The e-mail cowards tell you how stupid you are or how tribalistic you are, but they will never sign their names. The venom of the insults are always delivered anonymously, like the one I got after I wrote an opinion on Dr. Lam Akol titled: “ Dr. Lam Akol, you have skewed your legacy.”

“ Dear Luke you are still expressing your stupidity. I know you are not a learned person because you did not benefited from the money Upper Nile State gave you for studies in US. By the way what qualification did you get? As I know you, you do not have Sudan School certificate. Did you continue your High School in the USA. Please you have stayed too long in the US and also a bechelor. Your former girl-friend is now live in Australia. What you learned is only to quote Martin Luther King nothing else. As I told you what you are going to do with your people killing and hunting themselves like animals in Akobo. Your people managed to displace the peaceful Anywak tribes from their rightful homeland.” Africano!

Obviously, this guy is one of Dr. Lam Akol’s die-heart flunkies angered by my opinion mentioned above. You’d think he or she’d be proud of that and sign his/her name, but no.

Others, of course, when they have nothing to say, go for easy insults. Clearly, this guy doesn’t know me. If he did – as he claims- he would have known that am an alumni of the elite Malakal al-Amirria, Malakal and Shendi Secondary Schools respectively.

Furthermore, writing can be learned. It can also be a gift. CNN’s Larry king, arguably the undisputed heavy weight of the TV talk- shows, did not attend college. And the late Peter Jennings of ABC, was in 3rd grade when he told his father: the school’s boring. Yet, he ruled the American media to the last minute of his life. I could go on, but you got the point, I hope.

Over the years, I have received quite a few e-mails. The people who agree sign their names. People who disagree, but relay a valid point without resorting to insults, sign their names, too. But the cowards with nothing but insults never do.

If you don’t agree, fine. If what I write makes you mad, please, you have my permission not to read it. But if you are going to take the time to insult me, at least have the guts to stand behind it. Put your name with your words. Otherwise, I will assume what I think to be true: You are not very proud of them in the first place.

Moreover, if the flunkies lunatics think insulting individual journalists will stop them from voicing their opinions, they better think again. Their actions, in fact, would only generate an unwanted attention to their man, and make the subject even more attractive to the media.

  • Luk Kuth Dak,

What is the point of this "article"? This is pointless and ridiculous. This is not journalist. What a waste of time. I read your stupid article on Lam Akol and it was not well balanced. It was purely one side and full of propaganda typical of some ignorant Southerners!

    • Thanks Africano,Patriot and who ever wrote or send any comment.I can just advice on some areas.as we all know politics is dirty when you misplay it.And again when some one say your Idea is stupid, then you are adding his/her anger.Just send him advice and if he/she fail to change then give him his time. now if we are all talking of Lam Akol Splm-dc,we can just talk for decades of years and gain nothing.if Lam decide to create his own party although is almost close to splm,he knows what he is doing and there are people who will tell him what you are doing is wrong. And again we are fighting for Democracy and if we are again talk of evil of some one, have we really understand democracy meaning? being in democrat is when one being is free on what ever he/she want as long is not harmful to citizen . please try to correct some one in away he/she can understand.Remember if you want to correct your child in abusive way, that child won’t change for life.(if you are saying some is stupid and you abuse him/her,that act will make you fall to be the same line) thanks Keat Bayak

  • Luk Kuth Dak is still extending his stupid expressions. He was a reader of Juba Arabic on Juba Radio. Nothing more. He wants to become expert on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. I do not know how many books he might have read on Dr. Martin. Please keep out of South Sudan politics.

    • Dear Luke,

Writers faced the same different views from different readers , but that is normal; opinion is question and see nothing unfamiliar.

If you look at some of our mail boxes, they are full of everything, from those talking loudly to those voicing kindly and friendly, all of them are important and you should respect them, since you have put yourself on line

The funny thing about writing is this: there are no heroes or villians, you expect nothing in return whether your work/writing makes sense or not.

Africano, leave the man alone; its too much of you, respect voices of others, that is a feature of things, even if that opinion is outrageous. More importantly, a space is needed!

Otherwise, you are a brilliant and talented man; future is yours, Luke sun is setting.

        Dear Brothers and Sisters,

This is in reference to a comment made by the so called africano a week ago, in which he was bullying and insulting some contributors and writers on Sudan Tribune who were trying to have an intellectual discourse in a manner that is respectful of individual freedoms of speech and expression, unfortunately, some uncivilized elements tried by their unprofessional comments to silence the owners of brilliant and enlightened pens from expressing their views and opinions. One of those who were being maliciously defamed is a former well known Radio Juba Anchor, Ustaz Luk Kuth Dak of Atlanta, Georgia.

In a few words, let me try to dispute the foul allegations of so called Africano against Mr. Dak, who I truly know very well, and to set the record right, and stop such people who use the defamation language without justifications. The so called africano alleged that the Governor of Upper Nile gave Mr. Luk a lump sum of money for education, and he is absolutely correct, but he didn’t mention what Luk was doing during that time. Mr. Luk was the press secretary to the Governor and the council of ministers in Upper Nile Region and I think he deserved to be trained. Let me not forget to mention that Luk was a correctional officer with the rank of captain, and he deserves even better than that, at least he ( LUK ) is educated and not coming from Garr.

The so called africano also alleged that Luk didn’t have a high school certificate. Are you kidding me?! Luk was one of outstanding students who went to North Sudan and graduated with excellent result in Shendi high school, and he had obtained his high school certificate while you were a hooligan watching James Bond movies in Cinema Malakal. Luk is also well versed in both Arabic and English languages. Before that Luk was a student of Malakal el Ameeria and am sure you passed by it during the lunch time to Malakal Teachers Institute. Ustaz Luk was appointed as Arabic and history teacher in El Nasir Junior by the Ministry of education board, and many of his students are highly educated, some are engineers, doctors, lawyers, etc.. and they are proud of him.

Africano, you said Luk is from Akobo, you are so wrong, he is not from Akobo, but he has visited the area several times in many social occasions, either with friends or relatives from Akobo. In the end of your bizarre and despicable words you said, " your people are killing themselves like wild animals". Man you make me mad. This is not a joke. You have surely crossed the limits of this intellectual discourse.Ustaz look have made himself abundantly clear in his articles that he was not against Dr.Lam Akol as a Chollo leader. If you were wise enough, you would have kept away from any attempt to tribalize the debate about SPLM-DC and abstain from talking ill about Luk’s tribe people. I bet Dr.Lam would not appreciate how you have been smearing his name by reducing a politician like him to the stature of a tribal leader and for that matter, a leader of a Chollo tribe. I don’t want to be judgmental, but I will just say sarcastically that; Major General Gabriel Tang Ginyei is still alive.

In- conclusion, I would like to conclude my article by advising my friend Afrcano that; Ustaz Luk Kuth Dak is a highly educated man even if he did not obtain his degree yet and he is an excellent writer and outstanding anchor that was loved by all, and for him to quote Dr. Martin Luther King is a living proof of his intellect, knowledge and talents. Let us make use of this wonderful web site responsibly as it’s a good forum for all. May God be with each one of you.

          To Whom it may concern,

Generally, people disregard my opinion as I’m only 17, female and was not born in Sudan nor have I ever visited or lived there. However, a person’s age, gender, locality, political or civil perspective should not determine the standards of their opinion, thus I don’t let it get to me.

In response to the comments made by "Africano", I think it is simply a cowardice approach for a person to make false accusations/statements and not stand by them. And yes this also includes the projection of false criticism and patronising sarcasm whilts contributing to nothing of value. Furthermore, to include his personal relationship is tramednously disgusting AND disrespectful. There should be a distinct segregation between personal and professional life, there is simply no need to make comments if your not going to "stare decisis" - stand by them.
