July 1,2009 (ADDIS ABABA) — Despite declaration of war by Somalia’s hard-line Islamist insurgent group, Ethiopia on Wednesday said that it won’t re-send its troops to neighboring Somalia for an "empty threat" by jihadists.

"Al Shebab has once again declared a clear war on Ethiopia" the government communication minister Bereket Simon said at a press conference held in Addis Ababa.

"We cannot say this is a clear and present danger to Ethiopia at this point." He said adding unless there is an imminent danger posed at its soil; Ethiopia will patiently wait and take a close follow up from its borders to events and movements of the radical group."

The Ethiopian official, Bereket, believes that the Somalia "jihadists" at this point can’t pose big threat to national security, as they have their hands full trying to capture the Somali capital, Mogadishu.

After repeated reports that Ethiopian troops were back in the ravaged horn of Africa nation, Al Qaeda-linked Somalia fighters, Al-Shebab ,who are battling to oust President Sheikh Sharif Ahmed, on Tuesday, waged jihad against Ethiopia.

Ethiopia has repeatedly rejected reports that its troops are moving back into Somalia. This is what Bereket reaffirmed once again.

"We are within our borders," he said. "We are continuously monitoring and following the situation. So for monitoring purposes, within the vicinity of our boundaries, we might move here and there, nonetheless, we have no operational army in Somalia, and we will not have."

Ethiopian send troops to Somalia in 2006 to oust an Islamist movement from the capital Mogadishu on plans to restore the transitional government to power in Mogadishu and also to curb threats posed to its national security. It withdrew earlier this year after what it says was a successful mission accomplished.

With reports of foreign jihadists streaming into Somalia, Western nations and Somalia’s neighbors worry that if the rebels succeed in toppling the internationally backed Ahmed Sharif’s government, the Horn of Africa nation will become a safe haven for al Qaeda training camps and hard-line Islamists will destabilize the region.

God be with the AU peace keepers. Ethiopia’s troops are criminals of genocide in side and out side of Ethiopia and they never contribute peace in Somalia. When the troops were in Somalia they committed extrajudicial killings against civillian Somalians instead of helping peace. AU has peace keepers and they must take the peace assignment in Somalia instead of the genocide criminal troops of false government of Ethiopia.

Right that they should not have to get back to somalia.

There are emmense affairs to be reconciled befor even thinking of returning to Somalia. These affairs are both natoinal and international. Ethiopia has to transparently tell its citizens the cost of the past war in Somalia. We have a lot to deal with in this regard. As some media outlets are hinting, US is not going to back the return of Ethiopia to Somalia. This implies that, if returned, Ethiopia is on its own. It has to face all the brutality and ruthlessness of those vicious militants we call Al-Shabab and Hizbul Islam. I think the news of return to Somalia, shold be reassessed. Ethiopia must not be fool. It has to show the public that it has learned a lesson from its past actions. If the danger posed to Ethiopia is high and iminent and the return is must, Ethiopia should win the mind and soul of its tax payers. It is this people who are supporting its army by its effort and labor. Any move to return to Somalia should be based on reason and convincable. Ethiopia can not and ofcourse must not impose peace on Somalians. Peace must be forged and developed by them. They must be the sole resolver of their problems. Meddling in the internal affair of Somalians could only roughen the gateway for peace. Ethiopia again can not and must not be regarded as a peace keeper in that chaotic land. There is no peace to keep in Somalia. If we think Somalians must enjoy peace and tranquility, then the process of bringing the peace to that country must be left for themselves only. Do not forget. Messing with Somalians will cost us a lot.
