Philip Thon Aleu

July 13, 2009 (BOR TOWN) – Government employed staffs attend workshop on project management today.

About 80 officials turned up for the activity which is one of the series of training sponsored by the French Total Oil Company and implemented by the US based NGO Cooperative Housing Foundation known as CHF international.

State Ministries of Health, Physical infrastructure and Local government and laws enforcement sent staffs.

The one day training centered on Project writing, implementation and closure for development.

CHF International officers including John Mac Acuek, John Constance – who lectured the structure and follow of the project attended. South Sudan Relief and Rehabilitation Commission led by Barnaba Gilo was also present.

The workshop aims at building the capacity of the employees under the theme — “Enhancing Sustainability Prospects for Local Projects.”

Total has operating rights for Jonglei biggest oil block (B5) with a 32.5% stake, in a joint ventre with the Kuwaiti Kufpec 27.5% and state-owned Sudapet maintains its 10 percent as well as the southern Sudan government owned Nilepet 10%. The remaining 20% is expected to be allotted to an Emirati financial group but South Sudan President Salva Kiir didn’t yet give his approval.

The French oil firm however implemented a number of development and service projects in the state through NGOs like CHI International. Last April, the group rehabilitated Bor Secondary School and provided laptops and other material to Jonglei State ministry of land and physical infrastructure.
