Six basketball teams participated in the four-day tournament: Jonglei State, Unity State, Central Equatoria State, Juba Town, Sudan Olympic (from Khartoum) and SPLA Warriors.

The match was well attended, including by General Salva Kiir Mayardit, Minister of SPLA Affairs Lt. General Nhial Deng Nhial, Lt. Gen. Obuto Mamur, and other officials. It was organized by the South Sudan Basketball Association with the collaboration of SPLA.

Military regalia were on display and crowds were also presented with displays of judo and karate.

Kiir, who left early, nevertheless has contributed the sum of 100,000 Sudanese Pounds and a Land Cruiser to the South Sudan Basketball Association.

In his remarks, the Minister of Youth and Sports Gabriel Changson Chang welcomed the President to the Stadium and said "These are your children Mr. President, these are the future leaders of this great country, we must support them with whatever we can so that we can compete at the 2012 World Olympics."

Lt. General Nhial, in whose honor the event was held, said that the South’s government will not neglect sports, and predicted that South Sudan will be competing at world tournaments in the years to come.

The Chairman of the Basketball Association, Robert Ladu (Bimma) urged the President of South Sudan to be attached more to sports and help in building up the youths by creating and supporting many youth activities all over South Sudan.

"More playgrounds for different sports are needed and are to be provided by each state and in each State," said Bimma.

Congratulations to Unity Stat Basketball Team for winning this historical game. South Sudan needs to open more activities so that youth could divert their attentions to sports, rather than supporting intertribal violence.

Thanks to GoSS officials for showing their supports.

thank to unity state Basketball team
southsudan is filled with a generation that is willing to learn and put the acquired skills into actions.we have doctors, scientists, enginears as well as sportmen.I reckon we have bright future ahead of us but only if our government will provides an able leadership.sporting activities are among the most important means of creating unity among people.I therefore urge this able leader Mr Changson, to open up this bussiness of sport by building staduims in each of the ten states of southsudan, create leaque titles, pay the players and obtain revenue thro’pay per view. I reckon we can even beat the NBA champions.

We know exactly, we are doing good for sports and well enough to run all sports within our country by ourselves. I am pretty sure that,South sudan will appear in the world cup with in next few years to come.We are the best players forever and will succes in the futures. The country should be well known country to everyvbody around the world soon. These are the changes we are looking for generation. I really appreciated BilPam players and also Unity state players for what they have done to show our participation to world wide. I am still supporting Unity though i was not born or living there,I personally support the team for what they have done during the CPA 4th annivasary in Malakal.

Ofcouse, Unity did the best at that time, All their teams are well trained because if one of their team is playing today every body is happy. Because they are always playing with good percentage and keeping the advantage of the field.

If they are still keeping the same they will bring good change in Bentiu as well as other part of the country particularly the South.
