Eritrea rejects African Union "illegal" call for sanctions

May 28, 2009 (ADDIS ABABA) — Eritrea has rejected African Union "irresponsible and illegal" call for the UN Security Council to impose sanction against Asmara over its alleged support to the Somali insurgents.

"Eritrea strongly rejects the irresponsible and illegal statement issued in the name of the African Union" said the Eritrean foreign ministry in a statement issued on May 25.

The statement comes in reaction to a request of the Africa Union Peace and Security Council (AUPSC) on Friday May 22 to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to sanction Eritrea for supporting Somali Islamist insurgents.

The Eritrean foreign ministry said the regional body has become just an "umbrella for certain external powers to meddle" in the affairs of the African Union with the intention to “compound various crises that afflict our continent."

Further Asmara descried the statement as illegal saying the current AU chairman, Libyan Muammar Gadhafi had not been consulted about it.

Speaking to Reuters last week, President Isaias Afewerki said U.S. agents were spreading lies to blacken his government’s name.

The Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Council of Ministers had also issued similar calls against Eritrea on May 20. The IGAD is chaired by Ethiopia since last year.

Eritrea slammed the east African organization position wondering why it had endorsed the Ethiopian invasion to Somalia in December 2006 which aimed at subverting "a healthy internal process of national reconciliation" under the leadership of Islamic courts.

Analysts consider the position of the two foes of the Horn of Africa over Somalia is closely linked to their border dispute which led to the death of 70,000 people. They say the Eritrea and Ethiopia are fighting a proxy war in Somalia.

Yes he has gone to war with nearly all his neighbors but the issues of war have always arise because of border dispute now war over borders dispute is no justification for the damages of war . But nearly every Africa nations has gone to war with its neighbors because of border disputes after it independence from colonialism who lied false border are created discord and hatred between peoples of different tribes.

As for Somalia he has not attacked we hold no common borders, there are no Eritrean soldiers killing people. Unlike Ethiopia how illegally invaded Somalia breaching UN, AU laws , I don’t blame you believing such a nonsense claim America once accused Eritrea of having 2000 troops in Somalia just like weapons of mass destruction it was a lie. Why would America make such a claim well because it had a stake in the war between Somalia and Ethiopia! Remember Ethiopia invaded Somalia with America funding nothing is for free so they have there own hidden agendas which they further and the disguise under the word of counter terrorism. Everybody knows when America Ethiopia invaded Somalia the UNION of Islamic court control Somalia not terrorist but this excuse was use as pretext so if not for terrorist why did they invade I will let you answer that.

Ok, take the following facts and if you are not sure please ask:
          1. Eritrea has fought against Yemen on border dispute. Yes I agree
          2. Eritrea has fought against Sudan against Radical Islamic expansion and started harbouring SPLA.
          3. Remember EPLF has once fought against SPLA in Kurmuk supportig North Sudan Army
          4. Eritrea has fought against Mobutu Sisiko along side Kabela by sending Mechanized units
          5. Eritrea has trained and harbored Rwandan fighters of the Tutsi elements supporting Paul Kagame
The history of this nation has become nothing but fighting and war.
The conspiracy theory has blinded our minds and we cann’t even see the facts anymore. He turned an entire nation to a giant prison (http://www.hrw.org/en/news/2009/04/16/eritrea-repression-creating-human-rights-crisis) on a big lie (the CIA is conspiring against him by taking the sides of Ethiopia). Lets hope South Sudan wouldn’t take his track. Nothing good comes from Evil.
          Wake up my friend...

          Peace Lover.
