Wani Igga tells a rally in Bor to recount SPLM successes

By Thon Philip Aleu

June 8, 2009 (BOR town) — As campaigns heat-up for next year general elections, South Sudan’s ruling party – the Sudan’s People Liberation Movement (SPLM) starts telling voters what is has achieved.

James_Wani_.jpgSpeaker of South Sudan Assembly James Wani Igga says the SPLM has done history in the Sudan and would continue to do so. After 22 years of fighting, he says, the SPLM was able to achieve semiautonomous government in the South – the first time for southerners to have own government.

The SPLM – formed in 1983 shortly after that year’s May 16 rebellion in Bor by marginalized southern soldiers, reached a Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) with Khartoum government on January 9, 2005. As part of the deal, the Government of Southern Sudan (GoSS) rule by the SPLM in Juba has its own cabinet, army, a 50-50% oil share. Southerners have an opportunity to vote for separation or unity of the African largest Country in 2011.

The CPA also scheduled general national elections for July, 2009 but elections are now suspended for February, 2010. These set of events stipulated in CPA were brought by the SPLM struggle, Igga said.

Tribal clashes – fuels mainly by possession of illegal arms by civilians and slow developmental rate, are some of the cases critics challenge SPLM’s ability for good governance but the confident head of SPLM’s campaign committee argues residents to look beyond the hard boundaries.

Speaking in Arabic, convivial Dinka dialect and English Wani Igga told a rally on June 5 at Bor Town Freedom Square that the campaigns are officially launched in Jonglei. Igga calls young SPLM supporters to take the party’s affairs with full commitment – in what could be ‘a new broom swing clean.’ But aging comrades has not yet let any chance – ‘old broom knows all the corners of the room’ style.

Arriving on June 4 from Juba, Igga met with SPLM State (Jonglei) Liberation Council at Dr. John Garang de Mabior Institute of Science and Technology where a 25 strategy member committee was formed. The committee is tasked to mobilize voters at grass root including formation of similar committees at Counties and Payams level.

    Dear Wanni Igga

I have appriecate the way you talked indeed and I should encourage you to keep talking like that and you will always be in your position as you choose to be. You are only an equaltorain who I have saw a vision into. Other brothers of yours are just complaining all the time about dinka in which they would not get anythings from complaining. Big logic gone mad about dinka at all time instead of appriecate dinkas. Who is complaining about what is going on in s, sudan?

    Honerable Jame Wani Igga,

My gratitude to you dear speaker. I am sure If the Equatoria had ten good leaders like you, I think South Sudan should have been considered a better place to live in. Keep up your words but do not forget that, Big Logic Boy is one rotten onion among others, It may spoil the rest if care is not taken !

My advice to you is that, don’t waste a lot of your times in Bor town, all of the population except the Murle are for SPLM. Go back and preach what is SPLM to Unity State and some parts of Equatria were people are bought off.

Yes wise Equatorian show those mongrel and barbaric dogs how to behave. Advice them also about the danger of selling their girls to arab, nuer nor murle. Howver i suggest it is better to nuer and murle, because they treat them fair enough, but arabs are the worse let them think back to their previous treatment of 80s where girls of underage, mother of overage were force to have sex for some foods. SHAME JUNGLESE the way you survive throughout your lives is so shameful.

    Dear Hon. Speaker

Gratitude to you for carrying the vision of the SPLM/A with you wherever you go and in whatever you say. This is what gives hope to the Southern Sudanese people young and old, educated and uneducated, blind, deaf, dump etc as we prepare to have a free and an Independent Southern Sudan.

I am happy that you are outlining some of the achievements of the SPLM since its formation in 2005 following the Historic signing of the CPA in Kenya on the 9/1/2005, I hail the SPLM for that matter.

One of the achievement is the formation of the SEMI AUTONOMOUS Government in S.Sudan, Congratulations.

We are satisfied with the efforts the SPLM is making toward the achievement of S. Sudan Independence. We want the SPLM to Motivate the people by encouraging the to take active part in the coming stages in the implementation of the CPA.

I also appeal to you so that in these campaigns much is said about the need for unity among the Southern Sudanese to realise the real solution to our genuine cause.

As for you have holding influential positions, your role is like that of Moses of delivering the people of Southern Sudan to the Promised Land (INDEPENDENT S. SUDAN).

Your role now is to inspire, encourage and connect with the masses in South Sudan because Our Victory is certain Come 2011.

Long Live SPLM, Long Live CPA, Long Live SPLM Leadership and Long Live the People of Southern Sudan.

MY THE ALMIGHTY GOD BE WITH US DURING OUR DIFFICULT MOMENT
