January 12, 2009 (KHARTOUM) – Clashes near Malakal, the capital of Upper Nile state in central Sudan, have led over 300 inhabitants of Anakdiar village to flee their residence to Malakal town centre.

The inter-tribal fighting between the Shilluk group and three sub-tribes of Dinka—the Dinka Luac, Dingjol and Baliet—follows a major celebration in Malakal town hosting the heads of government of both North and South Sudan.

At stake is the issue of land ownership of Malakal, said Carlo James Chol, the secretary-general of the Fashoda Social and Benevolent Organization (FSBO).

The frightened civilians, mostly children and women, were received by local NGOs and kept in the Dar-Salam primary school in Malakal.

Chol explained that conflict broke out on Saturday at Anakdiar, at a distance of just 18 km from Malakal town. Eleven citizens were killed including one JIU soldier (JIUs are military units accorded a special status in Sudan’s interim constitution, being formed from the country’s two former warring rivals, SPLM and NCP) in a separate incident that took place at Malakia within Malakal on Sunday.

It is unclear whether this casualty figure is linked to the nine people reportedly killed Friday, but it appears that there was fighting over several days in different areas and the unconfirmed reports could be much higher. Several people are also seriously injured, including one JIU soldier.

Chol added that 180 houses were burnt down in Anakdiar and families are being displaced to Malakal since Saturday. Clashes also were reported in Alkanasiya Lou in Kodok area leading to displacement of residents to Malakal.

An official source said that there were two people reported killed when a bus was attacked by bandits on the Malakal–Renk road. The government of Upper Nile State has sent a joint force to restore security on the road. The official warned that continuation of the situation in Malakal might lead to other tribes being involved in the conflict.

Chol recalled that in 2004, the Shilluk Community wrote a complaint letter to late SPLM leader Dr. John Garang De Mabior about land ownership of Malakal and Garang responded positively to the community, acknowledging that the land belonged to the Shilluk community indeed also that the Dinka shared water with Shilluk community because both communities belonged to Southern Sudan and they are all pastoralist societies.

Sudan’s ruling party, the National Congress Party (NCP), has called for a joint mechanism to control the insecurity in the southern Sudan’s states. In a telephone interview, the NCP southern sector spokesman, Khamis Haggar, said that there is insecurity in the whole of south Sudan and if the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) fails to maintain the security the two main partners in the government of southern Sudan, the NCP and SPLM, should form a joint mechanism to face the insecurity there.

Haggar revealed that the NCP in South Sudan only participates in the security and intelligence organ but not in the army and police, so the question of security is the responsibility of the SPLM.

He noted that firearms have spread among the civilians in the South Sudan and that the insecurity shows that people do not respect the law. Those holding guns illegally in Southern Sudan’s bush country need to be disarmed in combination of a multiparty partnership between the NCP and SPLM, he asserted.

For now, fighting may have subsided. “The situation today is calm,” Chol updated Sudan Tribune on Monday.

I am really worried about the way the politicians were tapping into the emotions of their tribe with no consideration to the imminent danger they are creating to Southerner. Despite the increase in profits from our oil, excessive borrowing began to be the normal way for Dinka tribe to do business. It was understood that if you wanted to go along with this, you must remain silent. The use of double dipping became the standard. Excellent jobs never should have been offered to non-Dinka only to member of their families or you happen to marry Dinka girl perhaps you can be a commander.
This pattern of exploitation of tribalism to obtain maximum profits for the tribal corporation destroyed the opportunity to build a truly liberated state of ours. The fact that nearly a generation of this exploitation took place means we will have to go another generation with a whole new ideal. We need expertise and oversight. We need oversight of the overseers. And we have to stop borrowing. Change normally takes place in small steps but right now we are heading for some big changes and unless we change our attitude nothing will happen.
These contracts were given to family and friend to increase the loyalty of those who did not care that it was the “members” (YOUR) money that was being spent and being put at risk. Even the Land Claims money is being spent to support personal projects. We are supposed to build our military because the war is not over yet. Members of this government have build hotels for themselves using government funds and called them gold to advance our cost. It is nothing but a piece of crap and fool’s gold.
This time around we need a good leader. We need to have someone strong, charismatic and inspiring. Someone who is ready to walk the extra mile, someone with brains, someone courageous enough to take decisions without worrying about the next elections, someone iconic, someone who the educated youth can relate to, someone who speaks the language of the masses and understands their problems and someone who can inspire the whale nation to work for its betterment.
As usual the criminals, thugs and bandits, foolish tribe, unashamed looter who best benefit under such lawless will pay the price this time. It’s always unfortunate that evil sentimentalists have been going around inciting the mad killers to hunt down and slaughter members of other tribes who opposed the chosen one( Mr. (Kiir) of their tribe).
What the heck wipe out an enemy kill them and their families, and show them that the terror they inflict on the other tribes will come home to roost and will be inflicted on them. What do you do when your house is infested with cockroaches? You kill them, period. It is a form of resistance that when a groups of people believe that their security is threaten they are required to defend themselves. This monster armchair cowboy Mr. President Kirr who draws his policy attitudes from video games has not spoken since the killing took place in Malakal and he never intervened when it comes to his tribe (Dinkaweed). “We are born to rule” this type of attitude is common among “Dinka”. When someone suggested that we should make an effort to identify the guilty parties, they called him anti-Dinka and said that it didn’t matter. After all, they are just cow heads and deck headed…killed them all. I actually had one fine fellow say, “Well, somebody has to pay for their action this is a self-defense”. How do you call killing innocent people that is acting in defense? This is an attack on other tribe not self defense dim ass.
We sadly live in an EXTREMELY PREVERSE society that thrives and loves to watch violence, and other obscene things. When did violence and killing innocent, or being involved with the mafia become considered an "accomplishment" and something to pat someone on the back for, regardless of their color. It’s true that their stated goals are quite clearly to establish Dinkaweed rule over other tribes.

Growing up on that part of the world, I saw the good the bad and the ugly? We have seen Liberia, Sierra Leone and now Kenya. It’s like a plague with those who are not yet infected thinking that they might be safe. But what had happened in Kenya and in some African nations before and without a doubt will happen right here. It’s too bad that Dinkweed still have the same backward mentality. It’s therefore imperative that we come to term with tribal politics and work towards closing its chapter in our societies.

Mr. Isaac this problem was created by outsiders, especailly our Nubian brothers in north are tried to divided us not to work toward our goals as southerners

Pandit! Please do not blame Nubian for these actions going on in southern Sudan against Dinkas. You must put the blame on the Dinkas becasue they failed to acknowledge that Northerners will used anything to divide us and the Dinkas ignored it. The Dinkas should have learned that at time of peace that they should have changed their behaviors which is responsible for all these actions going on in Malakal and down here in Juba.

The Dinkas must stop thinking that they own everyone in the South, liberate others in the war, and practicing tribalism in the government of southernn Sudan mostly in appointing people to the post positions. Everything the Dinkas did to other tribes or doing to other tribes is now coming back to them. Don’t blame Arabs this time. We should blame ourselves mostly the Dinkas are responsible. Change your behavior Dinkas!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you think this peace is permanent? do you think if Dinka give you all that you need to govern South, will you not suurender South to north? Be shame of your self, you got have ability before you claim for the leadership, and I am pretty sure you got none.

One thing that we need to do is, if there are two communities involved in fighting, let’s try to mediat and solve the problem rather then backing up one community, that not good.

          Gatkkueth,

The presence of Dinka in the GoS which you termed as Arabs’project is not the way you have to put.

Imagine when Abkurun, the Militia the jalaba(omar el bashir) hired to come and fight against Dinka using the so-called fertit(Kresh, Balanda, Gwolo, Ndogo) in the late 1990s in wau wasn’t Dinka who was used to do so and that was what you could have termed as Arab project. the former example of this kind is as soon as the the 1947 conference in juba where the southerners were given their rights and represented in the government with juba as the regional capital(south sudan k), the equatorians started saying the don’t need Dinka in juba which brought about heavy blood shed between Bari speakers and the Dinka (c) 1948-’50. so shut up your Ass.

And now almost all states capitals and small bulshit towns, the inhabitants say they don’t need Dinka. Assuming that the CPA expired in 2011 and the south doesn’t get what she wanted, who will make mutinies in this states capitals?.

we better never kill or bulsit on each other over this dirty cities like Malakal and juba which when it comes to rainy seasons, the inhabitats including Governor would go to the state parliament bare-footed and people die of cholera each year respectively.

And if you guys are always against any Dinka be Place specific, otherwise you are going to hurt some Dinka who knows the history of sudan and all this cities.

i welcome your oppositional ideas, with all this opposition, the Dinka keeps on Ruling you.

There is only Non-dinka person In the whole of south sudan that will rule it, and this will be the person who opposes the Ruling party not the tribe where the ruler of the ruling party comes from.

          Go to hell.

Gatweed, I know the little education that you got is leading you to your grave, you are trying to wage war against Heroes Dinka by mobilizing all the communities to preceive Dinka as a bad tribe in Sudan but the fact of Matter is, Dinka is not as bad as Nuer and the rest of the tribe in Sudan, this simply means that Dinka is South Sudan saviour, Dinka Save you from Depression of Arabs governing style, and you are trying to propagate that Dinka doesn’t want unity in Sudan, We Dinka fought with Arabs and Nuer when all Nuer rebel against Dinka? you Nuer are restless, I doubt that if this Presidency of South is given to Dr Riek,he will definitely Surrender it to Arabs,
I prefere someone from "Dor to Nuer" cause Nuer only live hand to mouth, they just want to eat all day like (nyanteer)hens, if they filled their poor bellies up, they won’t have any problem with you not knowing that you have to fight for your freedom so that you may have all you need to feed your self and the rest. Now if we let it go as you wish it to be, who to blame later? are you not gonna blame your fuckin asses Nuer? My message to you Gatngoth is, try to live your prophet Ngundeng prophacies but if you don’t take care you will be strike to death by Dinka your saviour, no Dinka will forgive you this time round.

Its very foolish enough if some tribes who didn’t put their hands in support of liberating these towns now start to claim this after hundreds of lives have been paid for it.
same is happening in equatoria town of Nimule, the madi who once happened to be citizens of uganda wants the Dinka to live their land.we in kajokeji donot have that Ideaology, respect and acknowledge some ones deed and that way will respect you at the end.

To me the Shilluk have never been seen in the liberation struggle and if they want themselves recognise, they should act more patriotic then arrogantly as they are doing in Malakal

Mr. Nuer or who ever u called urself, I think u should put in mind that liberating South Sudan is not easy one person like Oyai Deng can not do coz he and some officers like Parnyang were the only ones remains in the Movement when ur tribe (Nuer), Murle, Mundari and Shilluk completely abundant the movement and joined the Arab (NCP) leaving Dinkas, Anyuak, the halves of Equatorian to fight the elephant and at the same time taking the bull by its horn. Could it not becoz of those tribes now people are enjoying the freedom in Juba and other areas in South Sudan? Who was fighting over town ownership before CPA? So now the Elephant has been killed and every one is welcome to eat the meat but you should not claim the share of Elephant tusks. Nuer, Mundari, Shilluk and Murle should go and claim their right from NCP whom they were supporting not from Goss or SPLM whom they were betraying.

I hope those who witnessed the 21 years of rebellion will agree with me.

        To David,
If you don’t know anything, don’t write. It shows that some people on this website are not well versed on issues about South Sudan.
Who said that Madi are citizens of Uganda.Yes, there are Madi from both countries and they can distinquish themselves.
Who said that Shilluk are not patriotic and that they were never seen in the liberation. It is really madness when we as southerners don’t really tell the truth.
The good thing is that we write all our nonsense on the web but we can’t speak out bravely so that we know who is who.
And for those who think that south sudan is for only a dominating group, no, time is coming and the curse is following whoever has been doing bad. There are some evidence .I don’t need to point out. This will continue until those who were killed, humilated, raped and cheated innocently have to say "we have forgiven them". People act as if there is no God and I strongly believe the time is coming for some to pay a very heavy prize.Blessed are those who are heart broken, never surrender the Lord, you will be rewarded. God be with South Sudan. flokiriji@yahoo.com

The same things yesterday have been said to Nuer, Equatorians, and many other southern tribes. Will this habit one day lead us to the vision of our late Hero Dr. John? The vision of new Sudan where freedom, justice and equality prevails?

You are typical kind of person i will recommend on this site and ranks you the same like James Wani from Equatoria whom i think knows everything than my own tribemate who are currently holding big posts in the GOSS

Wani despite the intimidations he encountered wether from Dinkas or his own people during the struggle remained strong, bearing in mind Arabs are the only obstacles in Sudan

So people should stop talking especially against particular tribes and think back on what happened so far in this Country. so let make unity attractive in South in order to get rid of Arabs.

so Mr. Lokang, keep saying that.

"we should go to bed under one party and wake up under the same" then, we will be victorious.

He later on changed the mind of John Garang to same self-determination. I don’t blame you because Dinkas are not good strategies. They are cowards and cannot do a thing without money. Dr. Machar went to the Lion’s den in Khartoum and brought you the self-determination that you now sing for and hope for. Don’t expect me to argue with a tribe who are all thieves and cannot afford to administer South Sudan even before it becomes independent. No, Dinka’s ass will ever be a President of the Republic of South Sudan. Just loot now before we become independent nation!!!!

      Dear all,

Leave Gatwec Alone because he does not know what is he dong.
I am back again to the web because of Gatwech, I had suspended myself from the web for sometimes because I don’t entertain ill comments from useless people like Gatwech. In what sense can you call Dinka -Dinkaweed? This is being stupid and irrational. Dear Gatwech, I have been surprise to see Nuer men and Equatorian men walking together and drinking together in the Bar. You Nuer think we don’t know your plans. If I ask you a question that what connect you so much with Equatorians rather then Dinka? I think we Dinka have a little bit relation with Nuer because you Nuer are Nilotic and on top of that you Nuer have a strong culture like Dinka. What culture/tradition do you share with Equatorian? I feel that all of us should be united rather then being united against Dinka tribe. What bad things have Dinka done to you? You should learn how to appreciate.
      Dinka have liberated every one.

        Madhang,

Don’t complain that the Nuer and Equatorians walk together and drink together in the bars. This is a stupid question for a Southerner like you to see it strange for different tribes to walk and drink together. I don’t blame you, because the Dinkas do not see it as necessary to see southerners walking and drinking together. But, let me tell you that the Nuer are demorcrats by nature. They have very superior culture that values equality unlike the barbaric culture of unequality that the Dinkas and Arabs share. The Nuer do not judge you by your tribe but by your personal attitude and conscience. This is why Late Gatkuoth Gual had to accept non-Nuer leader in 70s. This is how late Samuel Gai Tut had to accept late Akuot Atem (late John Garang’s uncle) to lead the SPLM/A which Garang refused. This is how we have finally given you (the Dinka) the benefit of the doubt to make your incompetent Salva Kiir lead before we become independent. But the welknown stupidity of the Dinka have introduced the contrary, forcing the Nuer to act. In short, we are for a united South Sudan with the unity of the people of South Sudan, so that they can walk and drink together, as long as they are following the right objective we longed for, and that is, self-determination leading to the independence of South Sudan. It is a pity that some people oppose to see Southerners walking and drinking together. Shame on the Dinkaweeds!!!!

Mr. Getwech, the Nuers walks and drinks with Equatorian not becoz of socialization but to betray other country men like Dinkas. Nuer are the only tribes who can not stand in theirs feet they always feel cheated and full of inferiority conflict. When Dinka went to the bush to fight Arabs, they run after Dinka again they feel cheated there and they run back to the Enemy (Arab) also they Leave Arab and come back to join the Dinkas. Now they compliant that Dinkas are mistreating them so they are associating themselves with Equatorian later they will leave their newly found friends (Equatorian) and seek for another tribe or group to associate with. I think Nuer case is not new to someone who is a true Sudanese.

So Mr. Darweech your tribe is nothing but a fool of stupid people.

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen of South Sudan,
Please let us look at the Malakal incident as a South Sudan problem rather than looking at it from a tribal angle!

I personally suggest that we better concentrate on how to solve this South Sudan problem (please understand me, not Malakal problem alone) rather than discussing minor issues that are based on tribal affiliation and interest!
            Long live South Sudan!!!

            Dear Matur,

Stop replying this barbaric Gatwec because he is leading you nowhere.

No smoke without fire, and the people of Malakal fled to Khartoum following the recent clashes because we would all know that these wicked tribes wanted to hate the BRILLIANT Dinka community for the sake of money and they have caused problems and ran away to the arabs World.

To those who dislike Dinka, I warned you and I encouage those who are behind the Dinka community so as to fight for the right of our country (SS) or our common enemy/ies know as Jalaba and its allies instead of fighting ourselves. Dinka are fighting themselves and they are not running nowhere. What is wrong with other tribes? Why they like to be use as the sitting tools by arabs?

Hate Dinka, yet you will not succeed for they are increasing rapidly. Big penis is better than the smaller one. I mean the tribe.

              Brother Thon,

Why are you talking as if you are addressing non Southerners? All of us know that the most tribe used by Arabs to pass their projects against Southerners is Dinka. Don’t you remember the roles played by Santino Deng; Abel Alier;George Kongor; Moses Machar; Martin Malual; Kerobino; Arok Thon; and others?

The problem with you peolpe is that you always rush and never allow yourselves to sit down and apply logic. You used to live in self-denial like a newly diagnosed HIV person. You don’t admit wrongdoings. You are typically like Arabs, doing everything and denying anything. This cannot work my brother, I love seeing you living at peace with all your nieghbours. Good bless you.

                Mr. Pills,

It is better you have only mentioned some few Dinka who’re collaborating with arabs and not the whole Dinka community. We consider them like other people not to mentioned their names as the people know them better than me. Through their bad deeds, they all got their ramifications.

My point is, when something happened in any place, people should not point-finger to Dinka community as bad and stubborn people in this country. And I believe the people of Southern Sudan will one day surprize if Dinka halt their braveness and intelligency and leave other tribes to carry out South Sudan matters without Dinka involve.

There is great desire for leadership among the leaders and we all know who are they to lead South Sudan. A person should properly govern himself before looking to lead the nation.

Mr. Gatwick/Gatweak/Gatweed stop lying to the public. If you’re educated dude, can you pass to this webpage all references about Dinka’s failures, betrayal, slavery and the likes. Don’t forget to feed us with credible source about your Nuers achievements in reference to Southern Sudanese cause. The fact, that will remain for most of our life time is that, Nuer community was misled by one guy named Riak Machar Teny to stubbed their brothers and sisters on the back. That fact will not fade away... Try to live with that in your mind.

later on your (Nuer) community was divided into factions/clans which fight one another. And as if that was not enough the community as a whole surrendered it support to Arabs in the North against their fellow southerners. Isn’t that unforgettable shame to Nuer Community...you have to suck that in.

Mr Gat-renegate, the English said that one a renegate always a renegate...Your renegate mentality is there to remain. And for your info southerners are more vigilant and watchful against hypocrites. We took arms against khartoums with the same cause, same sentiment, same objectives, same slogans but later your community give up and surrender back to Arabs whom you pretend to hate to day...think about that.

          To others complainers.

Deep in side patriotic southerner, the fight in Malakal is condemnable. corruption and corrupters within GOSS and at States’s governments deserve punishment. To Dinka haters; and on the separate note, Dinka is a very large community found in seven states of the ten states of Southern Sudan. As a matter of fact, whether we like it or not, Dinka is there to stay. You better Look for ways to put up with Dinkas or you will always complain...With that said, it save no purpose to look at misdeeds within the states or within Juba’s government on tribal lenses.

If that is the norm, then one should always start by mentioning his tribe before one bark his/her sentiments against the Dinka. I.e a complainer against the Dinka Misrule should always mention his/her tribe not region as an alternative to Dinka. Say mundari, Latuho, Acholi, Azande, Nuer, shilluk’s writer for example, should always say why s/he think her/his tribe would make the best alternative to Dinka Rule.

There is no tribe call Equatoria to say an example.

Dear writer, do you know that we call ourselves Equatoria because God created us equal. No tribe is better than the other. There are good and bad people in every tribe. So we always try to understand and solve our probelms regarding individuals not tribes. You might be good in your tribe but not all. Who has the right to judge the others if we also have mistakes.
Now everyone is pointing to the Dinka because they themselves trying to divide South Sudan.By their own words , they say words as such :we are born to rule;we liberated the south . Pardon, who did not liberate the south.Should we all ask for our names to be put up.No of course,You people have a very bad strategy. You know Equatorians are very peaceful people, why deploy all dinkas to equatoria and then deploy all the equatorian boy to your troublesome areas. Who is now the coward?
Nuers are to be respected ,I better stay with a Nuer but not tribalistic tribes. Why bother writing alot on net,let us wait for the ELECTIONS to come. People will see the reality.

’Dinkaweeds’is truely the proper name of these Dinka aggressors and their internet warriors.
What do the Dinkaweeds want to achieve really by letting everyone hate them accross the region [South Sudan]? Clearly as is shown by the unintelligient moves by this terrorist group [Dinkaweed]to terrorize all the communities in the South, this started along time ago in the lands of the peace loving Equatorians where the group carried out continous masscares of the populations there in the hope of securing lands for their Dinkaweedism empire that they badly want to establish in the South.

Dinkas, now Dinkaweeds are the worst enemy unto themselves, look how they try to blame the killing of the innocent Cholo community members on some unseen forces that according to their mentality is supposedly the cause of the conflict between them and the Cholo, yet the objective remain literally true of the group which is about getting the Cholo land by all means necessary even use of excessive force of fire arms as was seen in this phase of the war.The question to others especially the Nuers is until when are they going to keep watching as the war escalate and draw closer at their own door step? The Dinkas of Malakal have to be stop somehow in the way they want or after their claim to the town let Nuers who are the majority in the State expect similar treatment from these wild dogs [Dinka] as they have done to the Cholo. This is the right time than ever to screw some senses into the dead brain of the Dinkaweeds.

The Dinkaweed should know that their numerical strength that they are arrogantly proud of is not their monopoly,it’s just don’t make sense for someone to get proud for just numbers.Don’t forget Nuers have the same advantage just as you are and are well place to bring your asses to normalcy somedays after these so many choas you cause to the people of South Sudan.
