By Mayen Daniel Mangok

December 17, 2007 (BOR, Jonglei) — Bor youth have succeeded today to deliver two abducted young boys from Murles kidnapers putting an end to a twenty four hour suffering of a poor mother.

Yesterday morning a group of four Murles abducted two boys on Bor- Anyidi Road near the Airstrip, immediately youth from Ayidi and Kolnyang payams run after them and brought the two Childs back to their beaten mother.

“We were travelling to Anyidi payam with my two sons and kid on my back, however, four Murles stopped us and kidnapped my sons,” said their Mother Mary Anyieth who also explained how she had struggled to stop them from taking her sons.

“I follow them but they turn aggressive by beating me badly with gunpoint on the back of my head, I felt unconscious then they went with children,” Anyieth said. She further added, “I was brought to Bor Civil Hospital by a driver who was coming to town when he saw me lying with blood all over my body.”

Spiral of insecurity in Jonglei state had taken deep roots where abduction, killings and cattle raiding are occurring on daily basis. This horrible situation caused more alarm within and outside Jonglei state.

One of the abducted boys narrated how they were been handled by Murles gunmen on the way to Pibor.

“I was badly beaten for trying to resist not to go with them,” said the eight-year Gai Nhiany Garang.

“We stayed the whole day with no food until the youth from Kolnayang Payam that run after us for rescue reached us in the forest of Ajagar, he added.

The angry youth from Kolnyang and Anyidi payam hwo delivered the two young boys brought them on Monday to the Commissioner of Bor County, Abraham Jok Ariing, to find out how they were kidnapped by gunmen and the way they were treated by gunmen

The commissioner told Sudan Tribune that despite the recurrent attack by the cattle raiding and kidnapping practiced by Murle, local authorities distinguish between good and bad citizens from the Murle tribe.

“We have no problem with Murles who stay with us in town, despite the incident that led to the death of six Murles here. The blame only go to the person who put together side by side the wounded from Murles and wounded from Bor while he known both were injured during the same raiding,” said Abraham Jok Ariing Bor commissioner .

The police commissioner was speaking about the November tribal clashes between the Dinka Bor and the Murles followed by the killing of wounded Murles in a MSF compound in Bor town.

“The killing came as results of frustration from Bor youth who were taking care of the patients, after the death of two victims of raid in hospital that increased the death toll to thirty people; the youth went astray beating the wounded from Murles dead and I condemned that killing,” said Aring

CONTROVERSY OVER MURLES RESPONSIBILITY

Last week the speaker of Jonglei State Legislative Assembly, Judi Jonglei, seriously accused both outgoing governor Philip Thon Leek and Bor County commissioner Abraham Jok Aring of the blaming Murles to be the one causing insecurity in Jonglei state.

“That is totally sabotage, there is no Militias in Pibor being supported by Khartoum government said Judi Jonglei, state speaker of parliament and also from ethnic group of Murles

He dismissed the claim that Murles victims of raid are always treated in Northern Sudan town of Kosti and being given ammunitions from Khartoum.

The fact-finding committee went to Kosti and found no Murles patient in Kosti Hospital said Judi Jonglei, no military support by Khartoum Government, there is militias in Pibor who are armed by Khartoum as Governor put it, he added

However Bor commissioner dismissed this statement saying, “there is no other tribes causing insecurity in the region apart from Murles, but when high raking officials from Murles deny this fact, then they show not sight of responsibility, they have to condemn their people’s act to change for better,” said Aring.

“They have now deserted the national army — SPLA– to join their brothers who are reducing Jonglei state population day by day for baseless reasons known to themselves, they use military tactics; where they move in box while cattle are middle, this indicated that are training Militias,” he concluded
