Besides the senior police officers who died 7 other police soldiers were also killed as they tried to protect their senior officers. The news of the other deaths was not leased until yesterday after the delegation from Juba left. This brings to 10 the number of people killed on Sudan 4th Nov 2007.
During his speech at Masia market the Governor urged the citizens to come back home and continue with their normal duties. People had been sleeping rough in the bushes and the marked had been shut for days.
The Governor also stated that the state government is doing all what it could to arrest the situation and bring the culprits to the book of justice. He said people should not think the government is not doing enough about the incident. Some people asked the governor whether JIU will be disarmed and taken away from Yambio or from the whole state, he said that, the state government is making sure there is peace for the people of the state.
Meanwhile the commissioner of Yambio county Isaac Jumna said that the commander of JIU has been detained and his body guards are disarmed more plans are on the way to identify the killers, who are still holing at their base.
Yesterday contingents of SPLA proper soldiers arrived Yambio from Maridi to contain the situation. It is the SPLA proper who lured the commandeer of the unruly JIUs to be arrested and his body guards disarmed which will open the way for them to have the JIUs soldiers to give up since their commander won’t be there to give them orders. The shooting was said to have been carried out by at least nine JIU’s all of them said from the Dinka tribe.
As of this afternoon the market in Yambio town starting to open and people began some free movements.
