South Sudan – Unite and forget about grievances

By Lago Gatjal Riaka

Feb 2, 2007 — It is now time to officially call on the government in Khartoum to emphasize willingness in implementing the Comprehensive Peace Agreement as discuss in the protocol. Southern Sudanese are tired of being deceive and we will not let this chance go without questioning of the government in Khartoum. Last week, two representatives from Southern Sudan testified in the House of Congress in Washington D.C. U.S.A regarding the future of the CPA and its current status. According to them, the peace is at its critical stages as the government in Khartoum deceivably ignores the provisions discuss in the peace. For instance, it is now clear that the government in Khartoum is not interested in implementing the North-South border issue, wealth-sharing, and disarmament of militias in the South. This is a serious violation of the CPA and I think it must now be the time to confront the government in Khartoum otherwise, time is running out.

The government in Khartoum must acknowledge that the future of unity in Sudan depend on how things are being run in the country as of today. The future of Southern Sudan depend on the government in Khartoum, otherwise; there is nothing that will convince Southerners that the government in Khartoum is the government for the people, by the people, and working for the people. However, this is not the case, the case is for the peace to prevail in Sudan so that our people live in peace and rebuild their lives. For twenty years, we had been at war with ourselves and in that war so some many people have died from military combats, diseases, and hunger.

As Southerners, it is now time to unite and fight for one common cause which is bringing peace to Southern Sudan and the future of our motherland, our people, our children, and our grand-children. Remember!!! History will judge us for centuries if we don’t prepare the way for the next generations to come. We should not be confused about what to do as the government in Khartoum deceives our trust in hope for peace in Sudan and in Southern Sudan in particular. As I’m concern, we must be ready for everything that might rise as a result of failure to peace in Sudan. In pact, that must be the time I think Southerners should take the fight to Khartoum, the city. This time we should not be playing around fighting a guerilla war because after all, it is we who remain the victims since the war is being fought in our land, our homes, and our cities. This time we must take the fight to the enemy so that they feel its consequences too.
