China, Sudan to ink series of deals during Hu’s visit

Jan 24, 2007 (BEIJING) — China and Sudan will sign a series of deals during President Hu Jintao’s visit to the African country, a Foreign Ministry official Wednesday [24 January] said.

President Hu will pay a state visit to eight African nations, including Sudan, from 30 January to 10 February. The other nations are Cameroon, Liberia, Zambia, Namibia, South Africa, Mozambique and Seychelles.

“During the visit, Hu and Sudanese President Umar al-Bashir are to exchange views on the Darfur issue,” said Assistant Foreign Minister Zhai Jun at a news briefing on Hu’s visit.

“The visit will not only help boost China-Sudan relations, but also benefit peace and stability in the Darfur region,” said Zhai.
