Sudan’s ruling party renews commitment to implement CPA

Dec 28, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — The ruling National Congress Party (NCP) renewed its commitment to implement the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) signed on 9 January 2005, ending a 21-year civil war that killed around two million people.

The meeting of the NCP Political Relations Secretariat, chaired by Mustafa Osman Ismail, Thursday 28 December called on all the concerned executive organs to adhere to the clauses of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) with regard to the time set for the implementation of the agreement’s provisions, the official SUNA reported.

The Political Relations Secretariat has hailed the role of the peacemakers of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement two years ago, and reiterated the commitment of the ruling party to implement the CPA and to work hand-in-hand with Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in order to remove any obstacles facing the full implementation of the peace agreement.

The Political Relations Secretariat also emphasized the necessity of adherence to the democratic transformation in accordance with the CPA.
