Khartoum State donates 135 mln dinar to Malak’s victims

Dec 15, 2006 (MALAKAL) — Khartoum state has donated 35 million Sudanese dinar worth of medicine and 100 million Sudanese dinar (SDD) in cash to Upper Nile state to assist the victims of recent bloody clashes between the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) and Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) in Malakal.

According to Sudan Radio Service, in a meeting with Upper Nile state officials on Tuesday 12 December, Khartoum state Deputy Governor Permino Awurial said the state has also donated blankets, 100 bags of maize, and 200 bags of sugar.

A delegation from Khartoum state also visited the Malakal Teaching Hospital, as well as SAF and SPLA military barracks, to survey the damage and speak with those affected by the fighting.

Upper Nile state Governor Dak Duop Bishok said the donations will be used to assist the victims of the clashes. He appealed to the Government of Southern Sudan to send financial assistance, as well.

At least 150 people were killed and over 500 wounded in the clashes.
