Hussein conveyed a letter from Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir to Abdullah on Sudan’s position regarding UN Security Council resolution 1706 on Darfur.

He said the UN resolution threatens security and stability in the country, describing it as “unfair”.

According to Jordan’s official news agency Petra, Hussein also expressed his country’s adherence to implementing Abuja agreement so as to achieve peace in the Darfur region.

The Sudanese government and the Sudan Liberation Movement faction led by Minawi signed the Darfur Peace Agreement in Nigerian capital Abuja on May 5, which is expected to be “a preliminary test for its signatories on their way of achieving peace and stability in Darfur”.

But the agreement was rejected by other main rebel factions which claimed that it failed to meet all their demands.
