Ethiopia, Libya agree to boost economic ties

Sept 9, 2006 (ADDIS ABABA) — Etiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi and Libyan Leader Muammar Gadhafi said their two countries should further scale up their existing relations through trade and investment.

During his day-long stay in Libya, Meles and Gadhafi have discussed ways of strengthening relations between the two countries in trade, investment and other sectors, the Ethiopian ENA reported.

Meles briefed Gadhafi about the steps his government has taken to create a friendly investment climate in Ethiopia and the viable sectors in which Libyan investors could engage in.

Gadhafi on his part said the existing relations between the two countries would further be bolstered through strengthened investment relations, according to ETV.

The two leaders have also discussed on ways in which their countries could contribute to the peace in Somalia through the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development in line with the decisions of the Africa Union.

Meles and Gaddafi have also discussed other continental issues and underlined the need to exert maximum efforts to realize the vision of the continental organization.

Prime Minister Meles returned home concluding his visit to Libya late on Friday.
