Do national sovereignty allows killing of Darfur people?

The National Congress Party of al-Bashir must refrain from using “National Sovereignty right” as a mean of Killing citizens of the Sudan

By David B. Choat

August 31, 2006 — Sudan is known with its longest problem that started since 1955. The regimes in Khartoum have been coming and going, with the civil war started in 1983 between the South and North. The Islamic extremism has been one of the causes. The National Islamic Front (NIF) regime of Bashir cannot be compared to any other regimes in the Sudanese history. It has been known of killing its citizens in two decades war in the South. Now the regime appears to have not learned from mistakes it has been committing since then. More problems are emerging despites the signing of the current peace agreement.

When Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) was signed in January 2005 between National Congress Party in Khartoum and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/Sudan People’s liberation army (SPLM/A), calls for a peace in the whole Sudan. The people of Sudan welcomed the peace with joys, hoping that it would be the end of the problem in Sudan; however the National Congress Party (NCP) consistently violates articles of the peace agreement. It still rejecting full formation of the commissions stated in the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA). It is rejecting a fair formation of the Oil, Abyei and Border commissions. That is the instigation of violent, and the failure of the implementation CPA.

The Darfur problem erupted in February 2003 at the Western part of Sudan. The Darfur Peace Agreement signed in May 2006 called for the disarmament of the National Congress Party’s recruited gangs called the Janjaweed, the ones that are committing atrocities which led to the Genocide in Darfur, and carry out the ethnic cleansing policy of the National Islamic Front (NIF). The Janjaweed never disarmed as stated to be disarmed in the peace agreement. They were not disarmed because it is in the best interest of National Congress Party to continue the killing of the Darfur people. The United Nations has been working on several resolutions to bring about a total peace in Sudan by bringing UN troops to Darfur. The NCP of Bahsir has been rejecting those resolutions and calling it an invasion, occupation and violation of “National Sovereignty” of the state of Sudan. Do the national sovereignty of the state of Sudan gives the National Congress Party a right of killing citizens of Sudan? Khartoum’s National Congress Party must refrain from using National Sovereignty as a mean of killing Sudanese People from South, West and East.

The scotch earth policy play by Bashir would not convince the UN to stop the bringing of UN troops to Darfur. All the baseless allegations framed by the Islamic fundamentalist regime in Khartoum against the United States and Britain should not be accepted by the United Nations to stop process of bringing the UN peace keeping forces to the world’s devastated region in Sudan.

Now, National Congress Party is working to derail the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement by keeping the war going in Darfur. It also want to kill the CPA that the world community witnessed, and thought they would dishonor it as they did to Fashoda and Khartoum Peace Agreement signed in 1997. The National Congress Party of Bashir needs to know that the entire Sudanese people and the world are watching them.
