Sudan’s Taha – UN draft resolution shows US voracity for oil

Aug 30, 2006 (AL-OBEID) — The Second Vice-President, Ali Osman Taha, rapped the USA for its greed for Sudanese oil. He said that the current conflict over Sudan with its different shapes is an aspect of the dispute on the oil resources in the region.

A_Osman_M_Taha.jpgSpeaking at a political symposium at the University of Kordofan,Taha said that the British – American draft resolution on Darfur is a good example for this conflict over oil in Sudan.

Taha referred to American strategic reports which indicated that Africa has provided the United States with 15% of its requirement for fuel in the past period, adding that this percentage would increase to reach 30% during the coming 10 years.

He said that Sudan has established economic partnership with China in the oil field, explaining that strategic reports urged the US administration to prevent China from carrying out its leading role in the exploration of the Sudanese petroleum.

He called for formulation a new economic system which h is more just to emancipate the world from the direct American hegemony.

Taha warned that the super powers are plotting against Sudan and to loot its resources and halt its economic development.

He stated that development in Sudan has become a tangible reality at the roads, electricity, education, water and health fields. He stressed that the national unity government is resolute to go ahead in the implementation of its political project and national re-building.

Taha who was in favour of the UN peacekeeping mission in Darfur, shifted his position and started since one week to denounce any role of international force in Darfur.

The Second Vice-President, who played an important role during the Naivasha peace talks in 2004, was the strong man in the country. But since the set up of the government of the national unity, Taha is marginalized within the ruling National Congress Party.
