Western Equatoria to improve local government

August 28, 2006 (YAMBIO) — Authorities in Western Equatoria state are working to improve local government administration in the state.

The authorities last week appointed new executive directors to the ten counties of the state, hoping the new appointees will boost the delivery of services to the people in those areas.

Speaking to Sudan Radio Service (SRS) by phone from Yambio last week, Acting Governor Joseph Ngere said that the appointment of the executive directors is aimed at easing the administration of key government institutions in the state.

“What we are saying is that some of the work of executive directors is technical. Unless you have gone through the training, then you can’t do it. So the guys who were volunteering we have asked them to leave way for these executive directors so that the local government takes its shape” he said.

Ngere challenged the new executive directors to be accountable and deliver quality services to the people. The executive directors are expected to take up their positions soon.
