Eastern Sudan talks to resume on Monday

Aug 20, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — The Presidential Advisor and head of the government delegation for East Sudan negotiations, Mustafa Osman Ismail, announced that the negotiations are due to be resumed in Asmara on Monday to discuss the security arrangements’ file.

In a press conference at the ruling National Congress headquarters’ Sunday, Ismail said that the security delegation for the negotiations, headed by the Minister of Investment, Malik Aggar, is due to leave for Asmara on Monday morning.

He said that the technical committee for the wealth sharing and the political committee are due to begin negotiations a week later after the conclusion of the negotiations on the security arrangements file.

He said that the government delegation has set up clear-cut features for the coming session of negotiations and in a way that enhances the realization of a lasting peace agreement for the region and achieving balanced development in eastern Sudan.

He appointed out that the delegation will reflect the government strategy to achieve the development through establishment of water, health, education, capacity-building and rehabilitation project.

He disclosed that the federal government will support the Eastern Sudan Development Fund with finance and a timetable that was not fixed yet, saying that some pending issues in the sharing of wealth file have been submitted to a meeting of the higher committee for solution.
