Newly appointed ambassadors enlightened on national economic issues

July 18, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — As part of their ongoing training, the newly appointed SPLM ambassadors were Tuesday informed by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Finance, Al-Sheikh Al-Makk, on the general economic and situation in the country as well as the economic stability and the rate of growth.

Al-Makk also acquainted the new ambassadors with favourable atmosphere of investment in Sudan. He further shed light on the item of the sharing of wealth as included in the Comprehensive Peace Agreement, which was signed by the government and Sudan People’s Liberation Movement, and the distribution of the oil revenues.

He referred at his meeting with the new ambassadors to the ongoing government efforts to reduction and writing off for its indebtedness.

The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Finance also referred to the delay in the response to live to their commitments which they have declared at the Donors Conference in Oslo.

On Saturday 27 May 2006, President Omar al-Bashir issued a republican decree appointing, in different grades, 21 ambassadors, 16 from the SPLM and other Southern political groups and 5 from the ruling National Congress Party (NCP), and the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) of Mohamed Osman al-Merghani.

The Sudanese Foreign Minister, Lam Akol, said that the appointment of ambassadors in compliance with the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) represented an important step in implementation of the agreement.

The minister met Monday 19 June with the newly appointed ambassador at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
