Peace committee holds preparatory meeting for next round of talks

KHARTOUM, Nov. 09, 2003 — The higher committee for the follow up of the peace process, chaired by the first vice-president, Ali Uthman Muhammad Taha, has commended the progress being made by the peace process in Sudan and results achieved by recent Naivasha talks regarding various issues.

During its meeting at the Republican Palace today, the committee discussed arrangements for the visit of the [Kenyan] peace envoy to Sudan, Gen Lazarus Sumbeiywo, on 11 November, and talks he will hold with the first vice-president and presidential adviser on peace besides holding [separate] talks with the two parties.

The committee also discussed final preparations for the government delegation to the forthcoming talks, which is expected to leave for Nairobi, Kenya, on 30 November.

It also discussed preparations for the expected meetings between the first vice-president and the leader of the [Sudan People’s Liberation] Movement on 5 December 2003.
