A-Bashir urges settlement of Ethiopia-Sudan border disputes

Mar 14, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — Sudanese president, Omer Al-Bashir, has called for settlement of the border disputes between the Sudanese and Ethiopian farmers.

Omar_al-Beshir_2004.jpgAl-Bashir made this statement when he received Tuesday in his office the governor of Gedarif State, Abdelrahman Al-Khidir. Present at the meeting was Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of Gedarif State, Karamalla Abbas.

Sudanese president affirmed in the meeting that the leadership in the two countries agreed totally on the principles and details of the border demarcation.

The governor acquainted President Al-Bashir with outcome of the recent meeting of the joint Sudanese – Ethiopian for development of the joint border which was held lately in the Ethiopian Bahar-Dar city.

The governors of Gedarif, Kassala, Sennar as well as the Governor of the Ethiopian Amhara Region participated in this meeting.

He said that the meeting has come out with recommendations in the fields of security, health, border trade and agriculture.

The governor said that coming meeting of the joint committee is due to be held in next September.

The 8th Conference of the Ethio-Sudan Joint Border Development Commission was concluded on Wednesday in Bahir Dar town, Amhara State, with the two sides signing of a Memorandum of Understanding.

The Joint border commission agreed to enhance bilateral ties between the two countries by accelerating the implementation of different deals and signed an accord on cultural and sportive cooperation.

The two sides agreed to implement agreements signed earlier and new agreements enabling to collaborate in the areas of culture and sports.
