Chinese company to purchase sesame from Ethiopia

Jan 3, 2005 (HUMERA) — A Chinese company announces plan to purchase more than 200,000 quintals of sesame produced this year in Qafta Humera woreda of the Western Tigray Zone.

Representative of Chemical Import and Export Companies in Beijing, China, Shu Jai, told ENA after visiting a sesame farm in Qafta Humera that the produce in the area is of the best quality preferred in the world.

Shu Jai said investors and farmers in the area should strive to maintain the organic nature of the produce so as to get a continued demand in the world market and earn substantial hard currency from the export of the produce.

Shu recalled the company has bought 50,000 quintals of sesame from the area last year.

Manager of Warka Import and Export Company Yitbarek Zegeye said investors and farmers in the area should contribute their share to keep the quality of the sesame which has a great economic importance.

Representatives of the Chinese company have paid a visit to the area upon the invitation of Ali Abdo Ali and Warka Import and Export Companies.
