LRA condamns the killing of civilians in northern Uganda

The Lord’s Resistance Army/Movement (LRA/M)

Press Statement

Dec 30, 2005 — The Lord’s Resistance Army/Movement (LRA/M) strongly condemns in the strongest terms the barbaric and senseless massacre of innocent civilians and wounding many more with intent to murder at Lologi IDP camp, Gulu District and north of Patongo, Pader District in northern Uganda on Boxing Day and on Tuesday December 27th 2005 respectively. These deliberate killings of 25 innocent civilians and wounding more than 40 in total, which started with an extra-judicial execution of a teenage boy, cannot be justified whatsoever under any circumstances.

The LRA/M views these two attacks; one directed at the defenseless IDPs and the other, directed at UPDF own ?secret militia units’ (Previous Press Statement) which are being used as scapegoats for UPDF killings and blamed on the LRA as linked. The first is to frighten the IDPs and show Ugandans who is boss; the second is deliberately planned as ?good news’ the – killing of twice as many members of the ?secret militia units’ in order to bury the ?bad news’, – the massacre by UPDF. These cowardly attacks constitute very clear acts of state sponsored terrorism against the people of northern Uganda by the corrupt, indiscipline and murderous UPDF occupation troops. These heavily armed occupation troops are given free license to kill, pillage, rape, infect, loot and settle personal disputes through acts of violence such as the one at Lalogi, Patongo and many hundreds previous ones before them in northern Uganda, Luwero, Rwanda, the DRC and Sudan.

These deliberate attacks and indiscriminate shootings are clearly further proofs of genocide being committed by Museveni’s UPDF in northern Uganda right under the noses of the international community, and in broad daylight. As such, the LRA/M considers not just the perpetrators of these acts, but the entire NRM High Command including Museveni himself and his political commissars not only responsible, but also to be the unmistakable enemies of our civilized and peace loving people and of our aspirations and struggle for freedom, peace, unity and development within the region.

The LRA/M wishes to make it abundantly clear to the Museveni’s dictatorship that violence targeting civilians to further political objectives by any individual, group, political party or State sponsored militia will be considered by us to be a clear assault on our national interests and the struggle of all the oppressed peoples of Uganda and the Great Lakes region as a whole.

Surely, the people of northern Uganda have been traumatized and victimized for too long by these murderous UPDF, making whatever investigations into such incidences, including petty claims by the local puppets of the regime simply add more painful insults to injury.

The LRA/M extends it’s condolences to the innocent victims of these attacks and urges international human right groups to take a closer look at the conduct of Museveni’s barbaric occupation army in northern Uganda, noting the clear pattern of deliberate violence being perpetuated against innocent citizens.

The LRA/M further extends its sincere condolences to the families who have lost loved ones as a result of these barbaric and beastly attacks and regrets the dastardly attempts by the Ugandan dictatorship to lay the blame instead on some junior UPDF soldiers who were taking orders from above.
