Sudan SPLM to hold talks with Darfur rebel JEM

Nov 15, 2005 (KHARTOUM) — The Sudan people’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) has revealed that it would hold intensive talks with the Darfur rebel Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) within the next few days.

yasir_arman.jpgSo that the SPLM can come up with a view that would satisfy all the parties taking part in the forthcoming Abuja talks.

In a press statement to the pro ruling party news service SMC, the chairman of the SPLM parliamentarian bloc, Yasir Arman, said this agreement was reached during a recent meeting with JEM leader Khalil Ibrahim in Asmara.

He said Ibrahim had informed him that his movement was committed to reaching a just political agreement to the Darfur problem in the forthcoming talks.

Arman affirmed that the close ties between the SPLM and the leaders of the JEM would facilitate a lasting solution to the Darfur problem.

He pointed out that the SPLM’s participation in the forthcoming talks would prove that it is able to use these ties to reach a peaceful settlement to the Darfur dossier.
