Sudan is keen to implement peace, end Darfur crisis – minister

Nov 12, 2005 (KHARTOUM) — Minister of Cabinet Affairs Deng Alor affirmed keenness of the national unity government on implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) and realization of peace in Darfur through a unified vision of the delegation of the government to Abuja peace negotiations.

Alor received at his office at the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers Saturday 12 November the British ambassador to Sudan, Ian Cliff, and the European Union envoy to Sudan.

According to the official SUNA news agency, the meeting indicated that speeding up the implementation of the CPA would give a positive signal to Darfur rebels.

The meeting also tackled Abyei border file and the importance of supporting the infrastructures and administrative organs in the area and the aid that can be extended by the EU to southern Sudan.

Meanwhile, Alor received the French government envoy to Sudan and the ambassador of France in Khartoum. The minister expressed Sudan’s appreciation to France’s role in realizing peace in the south, looking forward for a greater role in the coming stage.

The meeting also tackled Darfur crisis, where Alor affirmed participation of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) in the official delegation to Abuja peace talks as a major partner in the national unity government.

The French envoy is due to visit southern Sudan and Darfur in the coming days.
