Netherlands to open liaison office in southern Sudan capital

Oct 22, 2005 (KHARTOUM) — The Netherlands has declared its willingness to open a liaison office in Juba, Southern Sudan to supervise reconstruction and developments projects there.

A spokesman at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jamal Muhammad Ibrahim, told the Sudanese Media Centre that foreign affairs minister Lam Akol held talks with the Dutch ambassador in Khartoum and lauded his country’s active role in Sudanese peace process.

He said the minister also praised the Netherlands efforts to ensure that the donors conference in Oslo succeeds.

Ibrahim said the meeting also discussed the steps taken so far to implement the Comprehensive Peace Agreement, the situation in the greater Darfur states and the Dutch role to resolve the conflict.
