Sudan’s FM hails Norway’s role for boosting peace process

Oct 2, 2005 (KHARTOUM) — Sudanese Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lam Akol, expressed appreciation of the active role that has been played by Norway for boosting peace in Sudan through active participation in the peace talks in Kenya and convening the donors conference in Oslo.

He affirmed that Sudan foreign policy under the National Unity Government is based on the Interim Constitution and the Comprehensive Peace Agreement, pointing out that Sudan is keen on improving and boosting its relations with all states.

The minister appreciated the remarkable improvement of Sudanese-European relations through the Sudanese-European Dialogue mechanism, expressing hope that the relations between Sudan and Europe would witness further promotion and improvement during this phase.

Johnson, on her part, affirmed Norway’s concern with its relations with Sudan and keenness to continue efforts to boost peace in Sudan, particularly by urging the donor countries to fulfill their pledges to speed up the implementation of the comprehensive peace agreement.
