Eritrean, Cuban, Tanzanian discuss border row with Ethiopia

Sept 16, 2005 (ASMARA) — Ambassador Girmai Gebremariam, the head of the America and International Affairs Desk at the Eritrean Foreign Ministry, who is currently taking part at the UN General Assembly session in New York, held talks with the Cuban foreign minister, Felipe Perez Roque.

The talks focused on the non-compliance of the Ethiopian government with the Eritrea-Ethiopia Boundary Commission (EEBC) ruling and the toothless role of the international community in ensuring respect of international law, as well as Eritrean-Cuban relations.

In addition, Ambassador Girmai held similar discussions with the deputy foreign minister of Tanzania, Abdelkadir Shareef. The latter explained that the UN Security Council did not live up to its responsibility in failing to adopt a resolution pushing for the implementation of the EEBC ruling.

Tanzania is currently a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.
