Sudan tarnishes Eritrea’s image – agency

ASMARA, July 2, 2005 (ERINA) — The Sudanese newspaper Akbar Alyom has exposed the Khartoum regime’s lies designed to tarnish Eritrea’s image.

In its edition of June 29, the paper cited the report by its Port Sudan correspondent said that members of the Red Sea Assembly who were captured by fighters of the East Sudan Front and the Movement for Equality and Justice are still in Sudanese territory.

The paper pointed out that the captured assembly members have called on the Sudanese government to work for a speedy solution to the East Sudan problem as well as release those detained in Port Sudan in the wake of the Port Sudan incident.

It is to be noted that the authorities of the Khartoum regime resort to blackmail Eritrea whenever they encounter attacks by their opponents in the eastern, western or southern parts of the country.

Following the capture of the Red Sea Assembly members, the Khartoum authorities, especially the Foreign Minister, Mustafa Osman, have been making repeated allegations that the Assembly members have been made to enter into Eritrea.

And in the latest launching of attack by militants of the East Sudan Front against government forces in southern Toker, the same authorities embarked on blackmailing Eritrea.
