Sudan, US intelligence talks are held

KHARTOUM, Sudan, May 01, 2005 (UPI) — Sudan officially confirmed Sunday recent talks between its top intelligence and American counterparts in Washington.

The Sudan National Security and Intelligence Department said in a statement its chief, Gen. Salah Abdullah, held “successful talks recently with his counterparts at the Central Intelligence Agency.”

It added that talks were within the framework of the “ongoing dialogue between the Sudanese and American intelligence, with the talks dealing with “security issues of mutual interest to Khartoum and Washington.”

The statement came two days after the Los Angeles Times reported American and Sudanese intelligence officials had become “trusted allies in the war against terror” and were holding regular and secret meetings to exchange information.
