CAIRO, Jan 16, 2005 (Sudanese TV) — The government and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) signed a peace document in Cairo today. This peace pact represents a framework to a comprehensive political solution between the two sides.
Nafi Ali Nafi signed on behalf of the government while Gen Abdalrahman Saeed, head of the NDA delegation, signed on behalf of his party.
The agreement has resolved the issue regarding NDA’s participation in the interim period, including organizing the situation of the NDA leadership outside the country and the contentious issues between the two sides, as well as establishing a framework for all other contentious issues which were obstructing progress during the talks.
The peace accord has guaranteed the return of the NDA leaders and the freedom to conduct their political activities inside the country.
The two sides have also agreed that 5 February will be the date for the signing of the final peace accord in Cairo between the First vice-president Ali Osman Mohamed Taha and the NDA chairman Mohamed Osman al-Mirghani.
