Leadership Council of the National Congress to review arrangements for interim period

Aug 25, 2005 (Khartoum) — President Omar AL-Bashir, is due to chair on Saturday of a meeting of the Leadership Council of the National Congress in the context of the efforts to declare establishment of the national unity government at the federal and states’ levels. The meeting would also deal with the nominations of the National Congress for executive and legislative positions in the framework of the agreement on the sharing of power.

Deputy Chairman of the National Congress for Political and Organizational Affairs and spokesman of the congress, Dr. Nafie Ali Nafie, said in a press statement Thursday that the Leadership Council will also review the arrangements for the interim period, especially concerning the National Assembly for the interim period, selection of the Walis (governors) of the states and other issues.

Dr. Nafie said that the President has received lists on nominations of the Shura Council of the National Congress for positions of the Walis for the 25 northern states. He indicated that the negotiations between the National Congress and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is progressing as scheduled, hoping that these negotiations will be completed shortly.
