October 6, 2011 (KHARTOUM) — The hybrid peacekeeping operation (UNAMID) announced Thursday the intensification of security patrols around the camps of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in west Darfur state.

The UNAMID said its patrols will be intensified around patrols around Arkis and Habad East in west Darfur. It further said "there are casualties among civilians and freedom of movement is severely restricted".

Last month, the residents of Sarba camps blamed the security forces of harassing women in the four IDPs camps of Agri, Arkon, Jebel and Sngerfout.

Yesterday Sudan’s security chief told the lawmakers that the security situation in the region is tranquil as there is no recent violence but he warned that "they are not deluded by the current calm".

On the other hand, the leader of the former rebel Liberation and Equality Movement (LJM) Tijani al-Sissi met in Doha with the Qatari state minister Ahmed bin Abdullah al-Mahmoud before to arrive to Khartoum on 10 October.

Bashir appointed al-Sissi at the head of Darfur transitional authority, an organ tasked with implementation of the peace agreement signed between the two parties on 14 July.
