November 14, 2011 (KHARTOUM) — UN chief, Ban Ki-moon, today condemned a new alliance between four Sudanese rebel groups active in Darfur, Blue Nile and South Kordofan.

While alarming reports emerge from the region about the growing tension and fears of new war between Sudan and South Sudan, the SLPM-N, which fights the central government in Blue Nile and South Kordofan and three rebel groups active particularly in Darfur, JEM, SLM-AW and SLM-MM announced last Friday an alliance to overthrow Khartoum’s government.

In a statement released on Monday, Ban Ki-Moon, expressed deep concern over the war of words between the two capitals and condemned the bombing of the Yida area in Unity State last Thursday by the Sudanese army.

Ban Ki-moon further said he "also condemns the reported establishment of a new military alliance of Darfur rebel movements and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North, calling for the use of force against the Government."

The statement indicates fears that attacks against the north by the rebel groups might push the Sudanese army to attack Juba and ignite a new war in South Sudan. The alliance could also lead to a proxy war between the two countries due to the historical links between Sudan People’s Liberation Movement members in the two countries.

Khartoum accuses the South Sudan ruling party of using the northern rebels to establish a security belt to protect its oil fields and prevent potential support to rebel groups in the South.

The Secretary-General urged the parties from the two sides to refrain from the use of force saying political talks only can resolve conflicts but not war.

He further called on "the governments of Sudan and South Sudan to exercise restraint in managing border tensions and to recommit to a negotiated settlement of outstanding post-CPA issues."

Why should you (Ban KiMoon) think if the rebels attack Khartoum, Khartoum will attack Juba? What’s the connection here? Or buy in to propaganda machine of Khartoum that we are supporting the rebels? You (UN) seems to have double standard when come to the case in Sudan. Khartoum has been waging many proxy wars against South Sudan for long time now, but no one concerned too much like this.

      Guys

Like I’ve said on many occasions, these international bodies are nothing but talk shops and tools of powerful nations, how else could it be that only 5 nations can sanction or prevent an intervention on most sovereign states.

That’s why am baffled when many of you ask the UN for help, they only help in the interest of the powerful.

      Ban-KImoon

You have been there since 2009 and you didn’t solve anything politically including the urgent closure of your mission in the north.Do you think you are talking sense or just a matter of wasting words? Leave sudanese alone, UN has already failed to solve anything politically.
It was agreed for all forces to withdraw from Abyei by the end of September. SAF refused, have u done anything?

There shouldn’t be worry about Khartoum attacking Juba. Let Khartoum attacks Juba and that will be a simple case. A massive and strategic military operation will be carried out, and we will capture Bashir and bring him to ICC ourselves. There will be fronts attacking Khartoum if South Sudan is attacked. It will not be pleasant to Sudanese extremists and supporters. Downfall just comes like that.

Is not us who will suffered if the pipeline stopped, if you think that way then you are living in the shadows of the NCP lies. you have to admit the fact that Khartoum didn’t pay the Chinese companies and the rests, if oil stop today than they will need their money back, which will cause fiver to NCP

    Dear South Sudanese and Sudanese,
I hope nobody resist change to the extent of he/she expects, however, I see the posibility of Khartoum to fall as soon as possible because it is determination of the concerned citizens. I know Bashir’s government is going and no need of discussing it. This is why there are lots of excusses from Khartoum. Thujooo! they are running weak and weaker.

Be much careful attention! this statement is completely white lie it doesn’t come from United Nation Headquater New York, where the Secretary General lives but it has been prepared inside Khartoum. First look careful and gain understanding so there might some articles which does not address the really issues, Ki-Moon did not condemn the civilians causalities in Yida refuge

Mr. Ban Ki-moon, talk peace if is between Khartoum and Juba to solve their problems but if is Khartoum and Sudan rebels that need force. Bashir is the problem to Sudanese, therefore, force must be use to save people of Sudan now. Because you been using diplomacy and nothing have change in the ground.

I think the UN Chief has taken an impartial position is required under the international laws and principles of neutrality. Of course, he has made a tremendous balancing tone in accordance to the rules of UN impartiality. Ban Ki Moon is fair and just because striking such a neutral tone would prevent escalation of war by condemning the new alliances of Northern Sudan rebels. Or else SAF may invade
