February 6, 2010 (KHARTOUM) — Southern Sudan’s United Democratic Salvation Front (UDSF), candidate for Governor of Northern Bahr el Ghazal president dismissed allegations that he is sponsored by the National Congress Party adding that his past in the SPLA long struggle is his best advocate.
With charisma typical of a seasoned politician and enthusiasm of an Athlete in his last lap of a long distant run, Kawac Makuei Mayar, stood before multitude of people in his hometown of Aweil North County and declared his candidacy for the seat of Governor of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, against SPLM official nominee, incumbent Governor Paul Malong and the most popular independent candidate General Dau Aturjong.
UDSF candidate, Makuei denied during a meeting organized by his supporters in Awil twon on Saturday what he described as SPLM "cheap political maneuvers, scare tactic" that other Southern Sudanese political parties as being "Arab sponsored".
The candidate told the gathering he had dedicated all his live to the cause of southern Sudan for nearly half a century.
The former Commander of Jamus battalion in the SPLA, said he still enjoys more supports from most members of the SPLM as he was the first soldier in the region to shoot a bullet in the name of the liberation struggle.
He reiterates for the up-tenth time that he was more committed to the vision of SPLM than those within the party itself.
However, he was quick to say that his only discrepancy with the party being "the lack of consistency and strategies incompatible" with his principles as a politician. But said he would remain a Southern Sudan Revolution fighter openly committed to a full liberation of the region.
The candidate said he is a typical separatist therefore UDSF gives him the liberty to lead his people in that direction without confusing statements and wordings like "making unity attractive" and "cheating" the NCP while secretly campaigning for separation, typical of the cadres in SPLM.
"I cannot do that" he said, adding the chairperson of SPLM, President Salva Kiir is his fellow comrade in arms.
Makuei in announcing his candidature has asked those with a short memory to remember of times when he literarily bailed SPLA/M out of jail. When he broke the siege set by Abdhalla Chuol and Gai Tut, leading the first contingent of recruits from Bahr el Ghazal into Ethiopia and opening the way for others who later followed.
"SPLM is mine", he said, "I have saved it before and will do it again if need be. I will always protect its interest from harm and I am willing to go far and beyond working with SPLM as long as our common interest remains liberation of Southern Sudan".
The current Chairperson of SPLA War Veterans Commission, concluded by saying that he is dedicating his very last political move to his fallen comrades.
