August 10, 2011 (KHARTOUM) – The United States on Wednesday expressed alarm over a potential spillover from the ongoing turmoil in Sudan’s border state of South Kordofan into the newly independent state of South Sudan.

South Sudan, which declared independence from the north last month, has already been affected by the fighting in South Kordofan after thousands of refugees traversed the borders into the south’s northern frontier of Unity State.

Fighting in the volatile state of South Kordofan erupted in early June between Sudan army and rebels affiliated with the indigenous Nuba population which largely sided with the south during Sudan’s north-south second civil war from 1983-2005.

Princeton Lyman, US special envoy to Sudan, warned in a news conference on the internet on Wednesday that South Kordofan fighting could spread to engulf South Sudan.

"I think that the danger in the fighting in South Kordofan is that it could indeed spread to other parts of the Nuba mountains or of the Blue Nile," he said, warning that it "could involve the south because there are links from the civil war between elements in the south and the people fighting in South Kordofan."

South Kordofan is part of north Sudan but the region was promised - under the 2005’s deal that ended Sudan’s north-south war - to hold popular consultation to gauge the level of local satisfaction with the deal’s implementation and how governance relationship with Khartoum should be reorganized.

Sudan on Tuesday said that Washington and Paris had failed to rally members of the UN Security Council holding a meeting on South Kordofan to issue a statement calling for ceasefire in the area.

However, the US diplomat said he was “sure” the issue would be opened for discussion again.

Lyman went on to castigate the Sudanese government’s conduct of South Kordofan war, saying “it violates the standards of war in the 21st century."

He cited the "bombing of civilian targets, taking people out of their homes, possible extrajudicial killings."

Sudan alleges that the South is providing logistical support to its erstwhile allied rebels in the Nuba Mountains, a charge the south denies.

Similarly, the European Union expressed concern over continued fighting and reports of abuses in South Kordofan.

A statement issued on Wednesday by the EU’s foreign policy chief, Catherine Ashton, said that the continental body remains “gravely concerned about continued fighting in Southern Kordofan state and disturbing reports of further widespread human rights violations.”

Activists liken Khartoum’s heavy-handed approach to South Kordofan’s insurgency to that of its approach to the early stages of the rebellion in the western region of Darfur.

In response to the outbreak of rebellion in Darfur in 2003, Khartoum orchestrated an abusive counterinsurgency campaign blamed for killing and creating dire humanitarian conditions responsible for the death of 300,000 people and displacement of 2.7 million, according to UN figures.

((“it violates the standards of war in the 21st century."

Lyman should give Sudan US made laser guided smart bombs simillar to the ones they are using to kill childrens in Afganistan. He could also tell us the art of protecting civillians simillar to the way they killed more than one million Iraqi when they were " liberating" Iraq!

The only way that it should not spill in the south is to tell the GOSS not to interfer in Sudan or YOU stop your plans to incite such a war by pushing Southerners into such a war.People in South Sudan have no interest in such a war or any war ; they are longing for peace and they deserve it !

This is a real threat! Are the Americans planing to start the war again?! If their plans didn’t go smoothly as they wish , and they will never go as they wish, am afraid that they will try to push the south to fight " their" war and not "southerners" war!

      Here we go again..

Some northern bigots talking in their usual patronizing way of implying that the African Sudanese of the north and the south will fight America’s war instead of a war of resistance in the name of justice & equality.

Throughout the 70’s, 80’s and early 90’s Khartoum got a lot of help from the West suppressing the masses of the Old Sudan and now some idiots want to make it look like they are the only one who can defend North Sudan from outside interference, what a joke! Even when the so called war on terror started in 2001, it was Khartoum who bent over backwards to help the US with intelligence against would be terrorists.

You people’s version of events is always distorted to fit with your thinking of the day, but luckily many of us are aware of our history and atrocities committed in your name. African Sudanese in general have no appetite for war and would love peace above and beyond anything else but as long as the likes of NCP and their supporters (you know who you are) don’t change their imperial and supremacist mindset, WAR is and will remain an option!

What is very telling, is that most of the Anti-SPLM commentators on here from the North, don’t really utter much in the way of sympathetic comments towards the civilians, rather only hurl abuse at the SPLM-N leadership for seeking international help for the plight of their people. South Kurdofan was subjected to arbitral killings of civilians by SAF and NISS, with plenty of evidence supporting this but yet some fools want to come here and blindly support the SAF of Al-Bashir.

You people are very sad indeed.

    Hello! Fans.

This website becomes scams. Why I say so? Because this people change change sentences to from either postive or negative. For example, "I don’t need that" they will change it to "I do need that" in postive of their interests.

This is message from Dinka Twic East Civil Group. We the Dinka Twic East are not involved in that apology by Vice President Riek Machar. The apology he has done was for Dinka Bor only. Also his apology was a setup by Dinka Bor people who trying to take credits or to discard Dinka Twic East true identity.
We the Dinka Twic East people, we are still waiting our true apology from Dr. Riek Machar, and it could be done in Panyagor, the headquarter of Twic East County. That’s where the incident of the 1991 occurred. For those people who done know the name of that incident, please it is calls "Southeastern Dinka Massacre or in actuality when it comes to really title based on impacted people. It is calls Dinka Twic East Massacre. Dinka Twic East tribe is different from Dinka Bor. They have different characters and dialects as well. It is true even God (Nhialic) knows it.

Please be aware that, this website always omits some information inside any message the think is not in there interests. Also the website is owned by Dinka Bor people and Dinka Twic East. That’s why they always ignore or discards our true claims.

N/B: Dr. John Garang se Mabior is Dinka Twic East. During the movement he was using Dinka Bor for Two reasons:

    (a) Dinka Bor was the one tribe in that region Jonglei that was documented as legitimate tribe there when Garang took over SPLM/A. It was done by intellectuals and scholars who were often driven by these words: nepotism (brotherhood & sisterhood), selfish, ignorant, pride of individual backgrounds and ignorant of other tribes as dominant signs, etc.

Dinka Twic East is not that small, and also Dinka Bor should be proud about 2009 census as they are more than Dinka Twic East in population.

We the Dinka Twic East people need government of South Sudan to checks Bor County population for its being divide into two counties.

Dinka Twic East has three sections: Lith, Ajuong & Pakeer, and Dinka Bor has two sections: Athooc & Gok.

Truth and History will not be steal from Dinka Twic East.
