KHARTOUM, Mar 23, 2005 (SUNA) — The Federal Ministry of Education has decided to teach the English language as from the first year in the base level instead of the fifth year, starting from July this academic year.

Within this context, Professor Mohamed Mozamil Bashir, General Director of the National Council for Curriculums and School Books, said teaching English language at an early level helps the pupil to learn and speak good language.

He explained that about 30% of the private schools, the government’s model schools and the schools in south the Sudan teach the English language as from the first year in the base level, a thing which creates disorder in the competition process later in the Sudanese schools certificate exams.

He added that the generalization of teaching the new curriculum in all the primary schools creates justice in education, explaining that Garnet British company has designed the curriculum for the Sudan similar to the curriculums of Qatar state , the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Egypt.

He said that a delegation from the Ministry of Education has reviewed the curriculum, corrected it and prepared it in its final shape.

He also mentioned that the company’s delegation will arrive to Sudan next month to hold training sessions to the educational supervisors in all the states, while the books will be shipped with the teachers’ guides from London soon.

He explained that the spine book which is now taught to the fifth year will be reviewed to suit the development which will be achieved by the new curriculum.
