Sudan declares general mobilisation after Heglig clash

April 11, 2012 (KHARTOUM) — Sudan’s parliament declared a general mobilisation to recruit people into its army and paramilitaries across the country after the seizure of an oil rich area in South Kordofan yesterday by the South Sudan army.

The decision was taken in an extraordinary session of the two houses (the National Assembly and the Council of States) after being briefed by the Sudanese Defence Minister Abdel-Rahim Hussein.

Hussein vowed to repulse South Sudanese troops and Sudanese rebels who, according to the minister, participated in the attack.

The parliament also decided to withdraw its negotiating delegation and to stop talks brokered by an African Union panel to settle a number of issues between the two countries since the independence of South Sudan last July.

The atmosphere in the Sudanese capital is charged with tension and preparation for war, a resident told Sudan Tribune from Khartoum.

Hey Sudanese and South Sudanese this is not the right approach that you are taking. Can somebody out there tell Juba and Khartoum that war is costly and peace is cheaper!! There are already Chinese trucks in Mombasa for army use when we don’t have medicine and hunger is looming. Stop this madness of war with the mad dogs in Khartoum!!

      That is an assumption of a fan. However, not all Sudanese are with the NCP. Darfur, SK, NMts, Blue Nile, excluding, the four major cities are not with the NCP. Let alone the opposition. Who does the NCP have to back them to go to war? It created an issue of national security that affects all parties including the people of darfur,sk,nm and bn. You are underestimating the threat from the north. The SPLA army isn’t as efficient or well trained as they were in the 1990’s and early 2000’s, nor is the SAF are as unprepared as they were in that same time. Plus you are now messing with a strategic asset to Arabia. You just gave wanted criminals a legitimate reason to commit further crimes, and i expect them to be brutal.

SAF just wants to make noise on Air but when its come to real fight of infantry, they are like feathers in front of SPLA, in Jaw, 45 minutes and the run, Heglig1 20 minutes, and heglig2 20 minute and run, they will not stand in front of mighty SPLA, the Africans who used to fight on their behave are no longer there, I don’t think those red ears will know how to fight in the Jungle

The media should stop calling panthou as Heglig. This was and is a Dinka village that has nothing to do with Kordofan or Sudan. It is part and parcel of South Sudan. The media should stop misinforming the world about the place. However costly Panthou is going to cost South Sudan it is worth it like it is to Kapoeta, Rumbek, Bor or Yei or Malakal.
