Sudan urges national oil companies to boost production in block 6

November 13, 2010 (KHARTOUM) – The federal minister of oil Lual Deng has invited national oil companies to intensify oil production in block six to reach a million barrel in the future, reported the country’s official news Agency (SUNA) on Monday.

Deng, who was speaking at a workshop held on Monday in Khartoum on the role of national companies in oil industry in the coming period, revealed that his ministry was planning on beefing up exploration in promising areas.

The minister further asked national oil companies to focus on block six in order to uplift its production to reach a million barrel a day.

Situated on the borders between south Darfur and south Kordofan, block six is the only oil-exploration block entirely located in north Sudan. The block consists of eight oilfields operated by China’s national oil company CNPC.

CNPC produces 95 percent of the block’s total output of 40.000 barrel per day of highly acidic crude whereas the state-owned produces 5 percent, according to figures contained in the report of Sudan’s oil industry on the eve of the referendum, which is produced by the European Coalition on Oil in Sudan (ECOS).

The ECOS’s report states that oil exploration in block six is “highly risky” due to the Darfur conflict, noting that production temporarily slumped by 72 percent after the killing of several engineering personnel in May 2008.

The ECSOC report said that efforts were already underway to build two new flow stations and oil storage tanks with a capacity of 50,000m³.

According to SUNA, the oil ministry is aiming to increase the rate of oil production through new exploration and improvement of current fields to reach 740,000 barrels a day by 2015.

Nearly 80 percent of Sudan’s proven daily output of 490,000 oil barrels is produced from oilfields in the semi-autonomous region of south Sudan, but the pipeline that carries the oil to export terminals and refineries runs through north Sudan.

Under a 2005 peace deal that ended decades of north-south civil war, the south is widely expected to secede from the north in a referendum vote due in January 2011.

The two sides have been splitting proceeds of crude oil in accordance with that peace deal known as the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA).

South Sudan has repeatedly accused north Sudan of hiding bona fide information on oil revenues and tampering with oil contracts.

Dr. Lual, put the boosting of oil production away for now; we will do the boosting later in the South.

Stop saying yes to everything you’re told to do, be autonomous and say no sometimes.

    To: Southern Nationalists excluding traitors

All oil contracts in South Sudan should be reviewed to ensure that they meet international standards for oil contracts and the current oil companies are held responsible for doing little to avert environment problems associated with their activities. They should have social corporate responsibilities (SCR) agreed with them.
Current oil contracts were negotiated by the enemies of the people of South Sudan with their illiterate greedy vissionless southerners who claimed to be in charge of those resources during the war time. These illiterate greedy imprudent so called military and political leaders of the oil producing areas were too naive to the Arabs and sold Southern resources belonging to generations for their foods and security in Khartoum. Shame on you, history will never for give you mindless stupid southerners who represented South Sudan in those bloody oil contracts.
Now South Sudan has a voice, the Government of South Sudan should be bold enough to say to Chinese and Arabs that those oil contracts where hastily negotiated and concluded without proper Southern representation and therefore, they all must be reviewed and renegotiated so that our people should get benefits of those resources in their land.
We will never accept increase in oil production output under those useless contracts. Our rightful share in our own resources was sold by those visionless illiterate and ego-centric leaders who are now being followed by those fools who do no use their senses and brains before following any leader. Shame on you. Now the same useless people are now planning to sell the whole land of unity state to foreigners in the name of agricultural investment because they are being paid monthly checks by those foreigners to fool them. Shame on you. Little minds will never be allowed to mess the country anymore, enough is enough for now. It is time all of you should go to school of wisdom and learn so that you can claim lagitimacy to lead your people and others, of course you know or should find out where the schools of wisdoms are located in Southern Sudan.

    Regards, Nhomlawda.

Thank you Dr Lual for being logical and rational and for serving your duties as they should be served (you are the only minister in both GONU and GOSS who is working for the best interest of the people) without any emotional complexes, hatred or bias and you are the only southern minister who works truly for the future of the south far from the emotional and racist empty speeches we hear every day. It’s in the very interest of the south that the north is prosperous and stable and has oil, even though I would prefer it to be exploited in the future and not be wasted by the crappy NCP on self interests (at the end of the day, the situation has to be win-win, otherwise, everybody loses), but it seems that it’s only you who understand these fact today and look beyond your footsteps for tomorrow.

    Peace.

Lual Deng Achuek, why do not you keep your mouth stuffed with blood-stained money up. We are only few days away to determine our futuristic political destiny. You have already made it prefectly clear that you are for the Unity of Sudan. Is it that the reason Sir, you want to speed up production rate? I think that is the reason why you want to do that. We can not blame you anyway, but we blame the person who entrusted you with that position.
May almighty God cast out that big money devil out of you so that you clean human person who wil not sell his people off.

      AMA...
Thanks for your observation and analysis..there are those who foolishly comment just to insult someone but dont comment to leave facts down the cooridor of history.please guys if one have nothing to do,then should not come and leave his nonsense here to waste others time reading them.
ALSO those who dont understand english well should not comment for their comments go contrary to the article they may comment on. Look! the minister in his capacity as a federal minister talked about boosting production in block six, located in the border of darfur and Kordofan.and some are saying in South Sudan...and eventhough its in South Sudan, increasing production would yield much for south survival should anything happen after succession. There are other things that dont want to be expose in politics.Watch out! dont insult someone you dont know...your irrational behaviors could be traceble to your childhood and your family so dont bring them here.

You MOhammed Achuek, you are known by being a self centred who believed that the resources that you are nurishing are belong to north part of the sudan that was why you had turned against your own brothr in the south. Mind you increment of oil productivity will not and will never change the south to be the north nor fulfill your greedness ambition of enriching. Take as much as you can because last time is ticking nearer and nearer. It is just three week left from now.

I’m really very sorry about such wrong leaders like Laul Deng. In fact mostly I blame president Kiir with his government by putting wrong elements in national unity government to run the business of SPLM. Laul Deng is behaving like Dr Lam Akol when he was a foreign minister.
