August 18, 2008 (JUBA) – The semi-autonomous Government of Southern Sudan on Monday celebrated "Torit revolution day" of August 18, 1955, which is declared as the official commemoration ‘Day of War Veterans’ every year throughout the region.

The first rebellion of the people of Southern Sudan in protest of arrangements towards the would-be independent Sudan from the British colonial administration was declared in Torit town of the present Eastern Equatoria state just four months before the country gained its independence on January 1, 1956.

The Torit mutiny resulted into the Anya-nya I war that ended with the Addis Ababa Agreement in 1972.

Addressing the celebration in Juba, the First Vice President of the Republic of Sudan and President of the Government of Southern Sudan, General Salva Kiir Mayardit, described the Torit revolution as the starting point of the real political movement in Southern Sudan.

Kiir also urged for recognition of war veterans who also fought for freedom, justice and equality in western, eastern and northern Sudan.

President Kiir underlined that the Addis Ababa Agreement of 1972 was the only agreement of which the people of Southern Sudan tasted the dividends of peace, but was violated by the Khartoum government’s policy of divide and rule.

He said the people of Southern Sudan would never accept distortion of Sudan’s history as practiced by the previous and successive regimes in Khartoum.

celebrating the day for the Anya-nya revolution is good but what did we achieve after this revolution? It laid the foundation for the birth of SPLM/A. Are n’t the traitors within SPLM not gonna betray us comes 2011? Let us watch and see.

Yes if we know that the idea of rebellion aganist those monks in Khartoum was originally from Greater Equatoria so why do you always bullshit and toture us on top of our rights and properties,we believe that we have single enemy yet the entire community of dinkas is just intending to be like another arabs to Equatorians,it is the same like you feed a blind and later s/he will throw you with rubbish. This is clear to me that Kiir is just showing a bit of good characters to us due to his nomination for presidential race in 2009.You must know who is your teacher where you always copy things from.

Oh!no,Mr. Big-logic,your account of Dinka community is highly reprehensible and it has no room in southern Sudan,it shouldn’t be tolereted, it needs to be confronted. The assertion holds on to the dubious propaganda in which you tried to propagate your own self ignorance in the name of Equatorians. I don’t think Equatorians like to be scapegoat like that unless those who ’re misled like you! you ’re totally dead misinformed and misremembered, what this great community which you tried to smear has hugely made in sacrificing lives of its sons & daughters and resources to free south and the whole country from gov’t of Sudan’s oppression if you mind. The contributions this community gave to both Torit and Bor uprising is visible and hearable to both blind and deaf. The Dinka community has never tortured the community you claimed to be one of them. The Dinka community always stand tall for the little guys or little communities, it’s not in the interest of the Dinka community to inflict pain on somebody or other community unless it’s in the case of self defense that’s a natural law to protect yourself. We should never allow anybody to denigrate this community in vain without pay back! we must always be ready to hit him/her squarely in the nose!no jok. Don’t use that language again as well as to others communities. This is the first and the last warning for you no to go further! I think and hope that we should stop using generalization and begin using specificity or specification instead and at the same time we need to be civil on how we express our viewpoints. Hey Mr.big_logic, I think you we ’re better than that article!

I am taking this opportunity as the special appeals to brothers in Equatoria to be very much alerts of this person here. Big famous logic, this man on my views is advertisings unfounded interest in the names of Equatoria which is totally unacceptable and it won’t be forever. However for this point I request the Equatorian to take the issue towards this man otherwise he is going very deep to Equatorian reputations and it totality. For instant, Mr Logic air his feeling as the person to parterre the image of our brothers in Equatoria which as no problems with that because of freedom of expression, but not as he did. Logic when to point of creating the language that can disable the nation and people of Equatoria in general.

This is a right day to be celebrated in South Sudan. Although the agreement was dishonoured, that day can be remembered as the day Southerners sacrificed their only precious thing (life) to free themselves from oppression. Those veterans are our heroes, and we should give them our respect in honour of what they had done. Few traitors are campaigning to make August 28th a celebration day. They should be reminded that if they want to celebrate in August, they should do it on 18th.

Yes! Well said Kiir. This day is a political watershed of our people’s eternal political river of peace, freedom and independence. Our interests come first. Forget about the others as we have paid a heavy price for that. Let the rest pay for theirs too. Secondly Addis Ababa agreement fell because of our greed, nepotism, tribalism and corruption like it is today. So we better revise our leadership style.

Thank for 1955 revolution celbration, but i have award to say on it, i think we should not make somany holidays in the names of struggle it will seem as if our struggle have achieve its golds "yes" but this is a slide part of it and we have much ahead of us to persue, i suggested government of southern sudan should look into that to reduce our holidays,if we will be celebrating too much our output will be least in ayear remember there are two days weekends we don’t work, in a day we start work at eight (8 am) and stop at one (1:00 pm) and resum at three to five and rest of hours are for relaxation and sleeping, that means we work for atotal of seven hours in twenty four hours (24 hours/day )which also mean we work for 35 hours in aweek equivalence to one day and half with out forgetting that you might get sick reducing hours to last then aday , and at this moment our young south need much work than rest or time of celbrations,i urged my felow citizens not to misquote me,
long live our peace and unity

Work days and hours are a legimate concern but Southerners need to be constantly reminded about their history so that they can appreciate where they are coming from, where they are and where they are going. Such occasions inspire nationalist feelings. In fact, such feelings can be used to accomplish good things such as enhancing work performance due to pride in one’s work for the nation.

Well done to the president of S.Sudan Mr Kiir Mayardit, for his very much more appreciation of celebrating the Torit uprising in 1955.Yes, surely we need this day to be celebrated for our history background, as to be the reminding to matured men, women and young people of South Sudan, who have had shed their blood since the very time and managed to reach the Bor uprising of the 16th May in 1983.

This was further out later and gave birth to CPA in 2005 under our late founder and father of SPLM/A Dr John Garang de Mabior. And however we dearly have the initiative to be proud to our Late Dr Garang, because he left us with a very hugely permanent property to his very people of S.Sudan through their life as to be celebrated. That why our idiots egocentrics or self- centre people of the South land like this man Call big logic. who is very much more criticising to what he has not fought for! .But nevertheless Mr big logic is just ignoring durable uprise of Torit in 1955 to be celebrated .Because he is there as a fool who could not stand and wait to see the beautiful resulted of what people are celebrating now in Juba . Why don’t you give thank to these people of S.Sudan who fought to have this freedom you are enjoying!!

I therefore wanted to remind that Torit uprise of 1955 gave birth to Addis Ababa of 1972.And the BOR uprising in 1983 later resulted to CPA of 2005 which he is now enjoying as a challenge to those people who actually struggle through fought to reach this day as people are celebrating in Juba. Keep it up Mr President of the beautiful and fruitful south land of celebrating such a uniting ‘National Day’ in the S.Sudan.

Well, Torit revolution day would have been good if the aim of SPLM leader is not to secretly try to celebrate the SPLA-Torit faction’s lucky escape from by then advancing SPLA-Nasir faction under the comandship of his highness Dr. Guandit ni gat Machar, God bless him!!

Anyway, believe or not no Nuer will ever observe such a bloody ceremony and that of John Garang day in our Federal states of Nuerlands!
