Saudi Arabia says too early to speak about recognizing South Sudan state

January 10, 2011 (KHARTOUM) – The Saudi Arabian government on Monday took a cautious approach towards the ongoing referendum process in South Sudan saying it is “too early” to speak about recognizing a possible new state that emerges.

The independence referendum is the centerpiece of the 2005 north-south peace deal that ended a two decades of civil war in which some two million people were killed and another four million fled their homes.

South Sudanese people poured into polling stations since Sunday and it is all but certain that the majority will opt for secession.

Saudi Arabia, a major Arab country, commented on the vote saying that is monitoring its progress.

The Saudi state minister for foreign affairs Nizar Obaid Madani told reporters in Riyadh that his country supports the unity and stability of Sudan according to statements carried by the London-based Al-Sharq Al-Awsat.

“There is no doubt. We are interested in the unity and stability of Sudan, and Sudan is an important country and a neighbor and its stability is vital for the region,” Madani said.

But he declined to say what his government’s response would be to a vote that favors South Sudan independence.

“We are following the referendum that is taking place in Sudan and it is too early to speak about it [recognizing South Sudan state]” he added.

Saudi Arabia has shown little public interest in Sudan’s affairs in the past but it is believed that it wants the country to remain united in line with the general sentiment in the Arab world.

However, it is not expected that Riyadh would dissent from a worldwide recognition of a new state in South Sudan.

The Sudanese 2nd Vice president Ali Osman Taha is currently visiting Saudi Arabia where he delivered a letter from his boss Omer Hassan Al-Bashir to King Abdullah Bin Abdel-Aziz.

Dude, there are better things to do than to come to this site and start hating on people. This article has nothing to do with Riek Machar whatsoever. Please Leave the past behind and let’s all start over as we will have a new country in this 2011 because if people like you don’t want to give people a chance to start over, this country will never be successful. I really hope you are not a southerner and if you are, please don’t come to south or leave south. I respect your opinion but thats not the kind of the opinion we need at this time. Please southerners tell this fool to stop tribalism as I know that you all southerners are smarter than that. And you all know very well that if this kind of hate is not stop, a lot of problems awaits us. Thanks.

What does this have to do with the above article?

All it does along with your very bad English shows you up for the ignorant uneducated idiot you are.

People from outside Sudan read this website so the rubbish that you spew on here just helps to contribute to a lot of negative opinions of Southern Sudanese.

If you can’t contribute anything positive to this website and are only using it to attack people go somewhere else and spew your garbage.

Southern Sudanese! Please be aware that this son of a bitch who call himself Landlord is not a southerner or even A Dinka. He is one of the paid NCP agent. In order for you to proved this, Look back at all his comments. They are always irrelevant to the topic being discussed. He is always trying to incited tribal feuds. Please do not bother answering him.

Gatwech, you should not waste your time going after this NYINGOOL! because he is paid to do this and he must work to earn a living, however, they should know that all Southerners, especially the young generations are all united for the vision of prosperous New Country.

If you guys can take a minute and critically digest this guy moves, what is the relevancy between Suadi Arabia recognition of Southern Sudan and the tribal differences between Nuer and Dinka? This guy has nothing to do or even lived on so he must try hard to earn his hard dollar from NCP.

This time, the Southerners are busy determining their future and NO body is either thinking about tribal stuffs. Lets not response to people like him because they are waste of time. We in the south are going to be a very stable state and we will prove them wrong of their forecast.

I am so sorry to comment on your useless post since it doesnt make sense @ all because there’s no any linkage between the article posted above and your hatred message.

Hey brother think twice before you should jotdown stupid comments if you are a true partriotic and so caring about our new nation which is on its way to emerge.

However, i percieved that you are not a southerner for being so delusional and ill-mannered in trying to preach us your tribalistic ideologies that won’t take us no where but will end us in doom and failure in all aspects of life if all southerners are chicken-minded just the way your thoughts are....like what the f*** is ringing in your head?:) and i dont need your damn answer anyway since you ain’t got no reasoning capacity to evaluate btwn bad and good!!

Conclusionally, i am from dinka and if you ’re then i am so sorry for your inappropriate behaviors and would motivate you to let your mammas teach you how to talk sense in social websites and thank it was just a piece of advice for you to filter since none of us need our internal matters to be addressed on this public site just to tarnish our leaders images. Saudi Arabia is a country full of shit. You can not expect anything positive for our new born nation from an arab nation. Saudi Arabia is where Bashir goes for advices on how to deal away with black African is Sudan soil and that is why they called sudan an arab and muslim nation which is not true.

The Arabs are terrible traders and this is how I think they encroached the sudanese land and today called themselves land owners. May God give them everlasting punishment for their abuse on God’s people. Amen Amen

Too early or not to recognize the new State is self-explanatory. South Sudan has already gone. Has Saudi Arabia got problem with that? Hope not. Khartoum and its allies are left with one choice; to recognize and respect the expected result of independence and be good, reliable, and trusted neighbor at all times or face the rising clouds that are converging on Khartoum before the end of the year.

Independence of South Sudan is not the end of the journey to freedom since Khartoum has a proven record of abrogating the key CPA protocols especially the one of Abyei, N-S border demarcation, and popular consultation for Southern Blue Nile and Nuba Mountains besides waging continued proxy wars to create insecurity in the South. This time Khartoum will never sleep but needs to prepare itself fully to publicly tell the story of what goes around comes around likewise.
