December 5, 2011 (KHARTOUM) --- Sudan’s ruling party said today that Salva Kiir’s call for the imposition of a no-fly zone by the US Army proves the defeat of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) in South Kordofan and Blue Nile

South Sudan Minister of foreign affairs Nhial Deng Nhial stated on Sunday that President Salva Kiir Mayadrit has called on Washington to impose a no-fly zone along the border between the two countries among other measures to stop violations by the Sudanese army of its air space.

Nhial, according the Africa Review, said Salva Kiir, in a letter sent to the US administration, underlined the recent raids carried out by the Sudanese army and Khartoum’s support to the rebel groups in South Sudan.

Reacting to Nhial’s statements, the head of political sector in the ruling National Congress Party (NCP) Qutbi Mahdi said such demand to protect South Sudan’s border proves the extent of defeats inflected upon the SPLA troops in South Kordofan and Blue Nile.

Qutbi further pointed out that the divisions involved in the fighting in the two war torn states are part of the SPLA caliming their successive defeats pushed Salva Kiir to appeal on the US administration to impose a no-fly zone.

The escalation of tension between Khartoum and Juba triggered fears of a new armed conflict between the two parties. Analysts say the two capitals are already engaged in a proxy war. But the SPLM-N deny that.

The Sudanese army on Saturday briefly took control over the South Sudanese border town of Jau after announcing the capture of the SPLM-N headquarters in South Kordofan.

On Monday, Ryan Boyette who is working on the ground with a team of local reporters in South Kordofan told Sudan Tribune that four missiles hit a village just outside of Kauda, at 2:20 pm local time.

He further said two young girls were killed and three other civilians were wounded as result of the shelling. "There were no military targets in the area," he underscored.

Juba is kidding us? The President has no legitimate reason to call another nation to protect its citizens. If I am his Excellency, I would have dropped a one bomb on Khartoum, and such a bomb would be a good way to ask for a no-fly zone. Please shoot down any airplanes in our airspace and put bullets into the butts of those SAF soldiers.

How embracing a president asking another country to protect his countries airspace. Get your own planes you low life. This probably an American idea so that they have an excuse to attack Sudan. Like they did with Pakistan, pretend your attacking the Taliban and then attack Pakistan slowly. Shame on your lame President.

Why dont you tell us the real reason. Its to defend the defeated SPLM N.

I have been saying this all along that SPLA/M militia has no muscle of its own whatsoever, to challenge even the growing rebellions in RoSS, let alone to defend its territories and sovereignty from any intruder simply because the corrupted regime has dilutions that great God and his Angels will come from sky and make RoSS an heaven on earth without putting any much energy by SPLM and its militia!

The corrupt regime of Kiir is relaying on outside help and its weakened, underequipped and malnourished SPLA militia thus its reluctant to create or form a well-trained, well-equipped, well-fed and healthy Professional National Army of RoSS. Where is the billions of dollars of oil monies that the corrupted SPLM regime has been stealing from poor and hunger of people of RoSS?

You raise very pertinent questions: Does the SPLA have the military, logistical and human resources to fight the SAF? Can the SPLA, that is presumed to be now a "luxury army" afford to go back to war? Can the SPLA bring back that motivation and fervour that drove thousands of our young men during the 21 years, to now face the SAF? The GoSS apparently has no "national and strategic interest".

Neither Kiir nor his top government officials understand how the US operates. They don’t understand US internal politics.
They need to know that US has no friends, US has interest. US friends exits only where there is interest. If you don’t agree, do you think those who die in Benghazi, Libya are more than those who die in Darfur?, if no, then what forced the US to intervened?

Rest assured, SAF is not in any definition defeating SPLA-N, the reason why Bashir and his cronies are bent on fighting is because they’re getting a serious ass whopping and the only thing they can do is kill innocent civilians with makeshift Antonov bombers. They’re embarrassed.

SPLA-N are all over Blue Nile and S. Kurdofan states, the fall of some towns were tactical retreats. They know this..

Kiir’s call for a no-fly-zone is just a political exercise because we all know the Americans only act out of self interest not humility as some ignorant souls on here would like to think.

By the grace of the almighty and courage of the oppressed, N. Sudan will be free of those who claim to be masters of others. The irony is that they can’t even master their own identity. PATHETIC indeed!

Is there any other independent to declare? So, we are unlucky for having a wrong leader in right place, if not so, there would be no reason at all.

I have always felt that His EXcellency Salva Kirr is leading South Sudan down the drain. However im happy he made this political move to request for a no fly zone. Its not going to happen, he knows that. Its his way of telling the world that civilians are dying and that he has no power or authority to cross borders and help the civilians Bashir will call it an act of war hence he will be right if in the future he claims that south sudan reignited the war. Having said that, we demand of Kirr to be tough on insecurity within our borders.

      @ Kim Deng
What you have said is hundred percent trusth and reality on ground, this cow boy call Kiil, is extremely coward for life.
When Bashir Kills South Sudanese, this inocent son of a toilet conductor is busy bosying all tribes of alcohol in Juba.

God have macry on him and cofortabily retire him from sensitive position, in which all South Sudanese live lay.

I don’t even think this article is completely credible. That man is not even minister of defence anymore and can you clarify where exactly did salva kiir ask for the no fly zone?! In south sudan? Or south kordofan??

Perhaps, if South Sudan leadership stops squandering money, they can afford buying some of the most powerful anti-aircraft missiles that would alter the way Bashir behaves.

Some of you guys do not know why Kiir calls for a no-fly-zone in this crisis;it is to protect the civilians.
Some of us who are contributing on this discussion are only 25 km from Jau where North and SOUTH are to confront each other.

      Dear Mr.Miyom,

Truely speaking,Salva Kiir Miyardit is a coward leader, and I can reiterate so many times that he is a coward. The Late Dr.John Garang lead the Movement since 1983 until his dead 2005, and he never one day call for a "no-fly zone"
Who is Salva Kiir to call for a no fly zone? Why he didn’t do it by himself? I hate Salva Kiir for sure.

This is the decision that a man who thinks that his army cannot match the invading army can take.
Protect our civilians and refugees from Nuba who are in Yida payam of Panriang county who are left without food as aide workers flet the area

During the peace agreement South Sudan, and North Sudan are been told no one will starts war, a one who starts war will get problem, this is why president Kiir call US, and UN for No-fly zone, but when US, and UN don’t make action North Sudan, than Kiir go war
